About The Position

Under the direct supervision of Sealaska Heritage Institute’s (SHI) Assistant Director of Education, provide early childhood educational support for Baby Raven Reads programming. Independent judgment is required to plan, prioritize and organize a diversified workload, and to recommend changes in relation to programs practices or procedures.

Ability to work well on own initiative and within a team.
Knowledge of program planning for early childhood classroom experience.
Proficient in computer applications, including word processors, spreadsheets, database software, and online survey applications.
Highly organized, self-motivated, and attentive to detail.
Competent in project planning.
Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education.
Work experience either in a classroom or in another early childhood educational environment.
Strong knowledge of Indigenous culture and perspective.

Responsibilities

Design and edit program curriculum that aligns with SHI published Baby Raven Reads books, Alaska Early Learning Guidelines, Alaska Developmental Profile, Core Cultural Values and grant guidelines.
Coordinate and plan monthly family literacy activities in Juneau with Juneau Baby Raven Reads Team and community liaisons.
Select all educational and culturally relevant books/activities/materials for planned family events and monthly mail outs.
Lead the creation and development of outreach to family and communities in the promotion of the Baby Raven Reads School Readiness and Early Childhood Literacy programs through newsletters and other printed or online materials describing the Raven Reads project and its programming.
Establish, develop, refine and edit materials in support of family literacy, including monthly mail outs of Baby Raven Reads books and literacy kits.
Manage the distribution and tracking data of books and literacy kits.
Act as part of a team/working group, which will plan, design, and implement the monthly family events and the implementation of Gumboot Camp annually in the twelve communities to be served by the project.
Complete all required project training and upon attainment of certification in Circle of Secure Parenting (COSP), establish and facilitate a COSP group in Juneau for families enrolled in Raven Reads programming.
Coordinate with the Curriculum Specialist in the creation and editing of Baby Raven Reads Curriculum, align curriculum with our books and support the development of new Baby Raven Reads books.
Participate in all required meetings and ensure that pertinent summaries of programming and outcomes related to his/her essential functions are reported directly or by the Raven Reads Project Manager and/or the Education Assistant Director to SHI’s administration and Board of Trustees.
Diplomatically communicate with a diverse group of important external callers, email communication, and visitors as well as internal contacts at all levels of the organization.
Act as a liaison with other departments and outside agencies in support of the Raven Reads program. This Includes confidential and non-routine information and explanation of policies when necessary.
Collaborate with the Raven Reads Project Director and the Project Evaluator to ensure that all activities and outcomes related to programming overseen is reflected in the Power Point presentations prepared and presented annually in each of the communities served.
