About The Position

SALARY: Commensurate with certification/licensure and experience based on the Wicomico County Salary Schedule for Teachers . Includes benefits package . HOURS: Full time 10-month position (190 contract days). FLSA: Exempt Contract Unit: This position is part of Unit I (Certificated) bargaining unit. QUALIFICATIONS: Must hold or be eligible for a Maryland professional certificate/license in Early Childhood Education. Five (5) years’ experience as an effective classroom teacher as demonstrated by student proficiency and growth data. Experience in school and/or district level instructional leadership, such as serving on school improvement teams, working on district curriculum or assessments, serving on materials of instruction committees, and/or creating and delivering professional development. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS: Ability to lead teams of teachers in ways to improve teaching and learning. Ability to mentor others. Ability to apply research to develop lessons, teaching techniques, and instructional interventions. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Report directly to the Supervisor of Early Childhood Education and work collaboratively with administrators, teachers, and staff at assigned schools. Mentor new teachers and other teachers including co-teaching, lesson demonstration, and support in their professional growth. Lead school-level workshops, demonstrations, and other professional development opportunities. Active participation in the school’s Guiding Coalition and the School Improvement Team. Implement the student-centered coaching model by partnering with teachers to identify a specific student learning goal, collaboratively plan instruction aligned to that goal, analyze student work and formative assessment data, and reflect on instructional practices that directly impact student outcomes. Maintain weekly calendars that are shared with supervisors and administrators. Facilitate content and grade-level collaborative planning to help teams develop lessons, identify students needing tiered interventions, and monitor and analyze data to determine instructional needs and supports. Provide individual professional development to classroom teachers during the instructional day to ensure implementation of developmentally appropriate practices and rigor with standards. Plan and lead large group professional development for prekindergarten, kindergarten and first grade teachers, support staff and administrators. Provide technical assistance to prekindergarten staff and administrators seeking Maryland Accreditation and Maryland EXCELS rating. Support the implementation of early childhood initiatives in all four content areas. Assess three- and four-year-old children for early entrance into prekindergarten or kindergarten. Participate in county, state and national staff development opportunities. Other duties as assigned.
