Under the direction of an Early Childhood Instructor, the Para Educator assists students by helping individuals or small groups with basic curriculum work, implementing programming, reinforcing learning skills, and reinforcing discipline procedures. The role also involves assisting the classroom teacher by preparing classroom materials, monitoring students, and evaluating and recording student achievement. This position may include working with behaviorally challenging children. Additionally, the Para Educator will assist with paperwork and documentation, classroom activities, and curriculum delivery to ensure students master subjects. They will monitor students and reinforce appropriate behavior during various activities such as play, lunch, detention, in-school suspension, in the classroom, or on field trips. Basic clerical work for the classroom instructor, including typing, stapling, filing, duplicating, inventory, scheduling repairs, data entry, word processing, laminating, ordering supplies, placing phone calls, materials distribution, and light bookkeeping, is also part of the role. The Para Educator will also assist with other classroom events, such as field trips or fire drills, as necessary.
