About The Position

Under the direction of a licensed staff member, the Instructional Para Educator assists students by helping individuals or small groups with basic curriculum work, implementing programming, reinforcing learning skills, and reinforcing discipline procedures. This role also involves assisting the classroom teacher by preparing classroom materials, monitoring students, and evaluating and recording student achievement. The position may include work with behaviorally challenging children.

Requirements

Criminal background check and fingerprinting required
High School Equivalency (HSE) diploma
No professional work experience required
Basic knowledge of typical office equipment such as telephones, copiers, fax machines, email, etc.
Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office.
Intermediate English language skills.
Intermediate oral and written communication skills.
Advanced interpersonal relations skills.
Advanced organizational skills.
Ability to work alone and with others.
Ability to diffuse and manage volatile and stressful situations.

Responsibilities

Assist classroom teacher in preparing materials, administering tests, grading, attendance, etc. Assist with paperwork and documentation as needed.
Assist students with classroom activities. Assist with curriculum delivery to both individuals and small groups to ensure mastering of subjects.
Monitor students and reinforce appropriate behavior during various activities such as play, lunch, detention, in-school suspension, in the classroom, or on field trips.
Perform basic clerical work for the classroom teacher, including typing, stapling, filing, duplicating, taking inventory, scheduling repairs and maintenance, data entry, word processing, laminating, ordering supplies, placing phone calls, materials distribution, and light bookkeeping.
Assist with other classroom events, such as field trips or fire drills, as necessary.
Perform other duties as assigned or requested.
