About The Position

WSP is currently initiating a search for an Early Career Geologist for our Horseheads, New York office. This successful candidate in this role will take part in providing local technical assistance for the design, development, and construction of site investigation and remediation projects in the public and private sector including the oil & gas industry. Tasks may include emergency spill response, waste sampling, material screening, annual report writing, and geophysical surveys. Basic assistance with research, investigation, design, concept development, and construction of site remediation, groundwater treatment, site restoration, and ongoing site management. Generates accurate and concise documentation regarding assigned aspects of the project. Ensures that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, safety, and functionality.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Environmental Science, or a closely related discipline.
  • 0 to 1 year experience, including relevant internship experience.
  • Strong interpersonal communication, organizational, analytical, and technical writing skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word and Excel).
  • Must be able to pass a HAZWOPER physical and be medically able to wear a tight-fitting respirator.
  • Ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.
  • Excellent research skills with analytical mindset.
  • Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
  • Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, Environmental Science or closely related discipline.
  • Excellent research skills with analytical mindset.
  • Familiarity with the concepts of reducing and eliminating the use or generation of hazardous substances, processes, or products.
  • Familiarity with relevant environmental laws, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
  • Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a scientific and non-scientific audience.
  • Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
  • Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation and communication software, technology, and tools.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Completed OSHA HAZWOPER 40-hour training.
  • Practical use of modelling and/or visualization software.
  • Experience with databases.
  • Knowledge of state and federal environmental regulations.
