Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for an Early-Career Environmental Risk Assessor or Toxicologist as part of our contaminated site assessment, human health risk assessment, and remediation practice in our Oakland, Walnut Creek, Davis, or Sacramento offices. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, environmental engineering or science, toxicology, public health, or a related science field. (required)
  • Strong work ethic and must be a self-starter with excellent written and oral communication skills. (required)
  • Flexibility to work on a multitude of diverse projects, a positive attitude, detail-oriented work style, willingness to learn, and commitment to workplace health and safety. (required)
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully as part of a team and achieve team objectives. (required)
  • The ability and willingness to travel and perform fieldwork as needed. (required)
  • Strong quantitative skills and experience managing large datasets with Microsoft Excel and presentation skills with Microsoft PowerPoint. (required);
  • Ability to succeed in a consulting pace, handling multiple project assignments, and maintaining flexibility, while meeting strict deadlines. (required)
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree in public health or related science field. (preferred)
  • Course work specifically related to toxicology, environmental contamination, and chemical fate and transport in the environment. (preferred)
  • At least 2 years of applicable experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. (preferred)
  • Prior internship or work experience in environmental consulting. (preferred)
  • Demonstrated competency in statistics and quantitative data analysis. (preferred)
  • Knowledge of and experience in exposure assessment, human health risk assessment, toxicology, and related regulations. (preferred)
  • Prior research experience in environmental science or toxicology. (preferred)
  • Current OSHA 40-hr HAZWOPER training and refreshers. (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Assess exposure and human health risks from chemicals in contaminated environmental media and consumer products;
  • Manage and analyze data to support environmental investigations and prepare tables, figures, and other data exhibits;
  • Perform calculations to support human health risk assessments and environmental regulatory compliance;
  • Conduct literature searches and critically review and evaluate scientific studies regarding toxicological, biological, chemical fate and transport, exposure, or other risk assessment subject matters;
  • Prepare technical reports, letters, memoranda, workplans, proposals, investigative reports, and presentations; and
  • Focus on team project delivery, taking direction primarily from supervisors and Project Managers.
  • Drive personal, company, and rental vehicles to client or company project or office sites, and other business locations, as needed.
