About The Position

The Engineer I/Engineer II executes consulting and development projects independently and under the direction of senior or staff level engineers. Additional responsibilities include assisting with proposal development, performing research and code development. POSITION LOCATION: Shaker Heights, OH; Houston, TX In Office/Hybrid REPORTS TO: Works under the direction of more senior engineers or directly to Group Head. Receives close supervision on all aspects of assignments. Has formal review of all work products. Maturely receives constructive feedback and demonstrates ability to self-correct. GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS Demonstrates basic knowledge of fundamental engineering principles and problem-solving by applying academic experience to practical engineering problems. Demonstrates basic skills in assessment and design of structural steel and reinforced concrete structures and calculation of minimum required loads (i.e., AISC, ACI, and ASCE code proficiency). Demonstrates basic skills in assessment and design of pressure vessels, piping, tanks, and structures related to industry standards (i.e. ASME/API/ASCE codes and standards and Equity Engineering Practices (EEPs). Demonstrates proficiency using Microsoft Office products for engineering calculations and reporting. Experience with applicable analytical software and validation of results, technical report writing, computer programming, and data handling. Gains field experience through support for Risk Based Inspection, piping circuitization, materials operating envelopes, and shutdown support. Demonstrates a basic understanding of oil refinery processes and damage mechanisms through cross-training in the Risk Based Inspection and Materials areas. Gains familiarity with corporate Human Resources procedures and QA/QC policies, and gains an understanding of technical accuracy requirements of work as related to quality standards. Demonstrates a few of the characteristics of an ideal team player: humility, a strong desire to learn, initiative, a motivation to assist others, a consistent work ethic, a team-first attitude, participating and thriving in a team environment, and an ability to deal and communicate with a range of personalities. Involved in outreach activities with community service organizations. COMMUNICATION SKILLS Possesses strong oral and written communication skills. The engineer should be able to successfully communicate with clarity and precision.

Requirements

  • Experience: 1-5 years
  • Education/Training: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology recognized program.
  • Completion of at least one external or Equity course (FFS. DM, RBI, PRS, or other)
  • One Continuing Education course is expected per year.
  • Licensure and Certification: Engineer in Training
  • Professional Activites: Member of professional practice organization (college degree-based organization like ASCE, etc.)
  • Business Development: Perform well for internal clients. Team members rely on you and want to have you on their projects.

Responsibilities

  • Collects data and gathers information or documents.
  • Performs standard structural modeling, computations, or analysis (Code Calculations, basic structural modeling, advanced finite element analysis models).
  • Prepares drawings and visual aids.
  • Assists with project proposals, execution, and documentation.
  • Assists in the writing of, or co-authors technical reports, validates accuracy of work as related to QA/QC program.
  • Co-authors articles.
  • Provides testing and QA for Software department.
  • Interacts with clients on a limited basis.
