The EAP Counselor provides support to individuals utilizing UR Medicine Employee Assistance Program services. Clinical duties include intake assessment and evaluation, short-term counseling, crisis intervention, and follow-up, as appropriate. Non-clinical duties include developing and providing employee orientations, supervisory trainings and wellness presentations as needed.

Requirements

  • Master's degree with major course work in mental health counseling or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 2 years of relevant counseling experience including but not limited to addictions counseling, assessment and treatment, preferred
  • Working knowledge of core components of EAP work: couples counseling, individual, families, and parents
  • Exceptional presentation skills to deliver engaging workshops.
  • Either NYS licensure as a mental health practitioner, certification as a Employee Assistance Professional or NYS Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC)/ (CASAC-T) upon hire
  • If licensure has not been obtained upon employment, the individual has 36 months to obtain the NYS license

Responsibilities

  • Performs assessment and short-term counseling sessions with clients seen at or referred to the Employee Assistance Program. Provides group interventions as needed.
  • Documents all client care activities and interventions in client's chart in compliance with department policy.
  • Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with community agencies which may be helpful to clients.
  • Provides consultation to administrators, supervisors, managers, and team leaders about concerns, behaviors and performance of employees.
  • Monitors clients who have been referred to other resources and acts as liaison between the University contract agency or other resources. Ensures clients have made contact with suggested resources.
  • Develops and presents wellness workshops and employee orientations to internal departments and external agencies.
  • Participates in on-call activities of the EAP.
  • Provides critical incident response debriefings to employees affected by local or national incidents.
