About The Position

To install, maintain and troubleshoot electrical, instrumentation and control systems throughout the power plant. Responsible for performing work involving a high degree of complexity, including troubleshooting, repairing, overhauling, calibrating and maintaining components of plant electrical, instrumentation and control systems. Provide leadership to electricians and Instrument Technicians.

Requirements

  • An Associate Degree in Industrial Electronics Technology, or the completion of an Apprenticeship program in electrical or I & C Training Programmer.
  • A minimum of three (3) years’ experience as an Instrument & Control Technician or Industrial electrician.
  • Must possess a working knowledge of process systems, which includes boilers, generators, turbines, pumps and scrubbers.
  • Must be familiar with PLC’s and DCS systems.
  • Must be able to comprehend and seek resolutions to complicated problems.
  • Must have the ability to understand and follow highly technical written and oral instructions.
  • Must have the ability to assume a high degree of job responsibility.
  • Must be able to receive and transmit orders and instructions in a manner that will generate effective and efficient work performance.
  • Must have good working knowledge of the various electrical equipment found in a power plant such as; DC, medium and low voltage motors, controllers, generators, electrical controls, etc.
  • Must have demonstrated ability in the performance of the duties of Station Electro-Mechanic.

  • Must be able to follow established protective measures including wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and acceptable Motor Vehicle Report.
  • Must be able to climb ladders, stairs and scaffolds to great heights, sometimes at heights over 250 feet and in confined areas.
  • Must be able to operate a fork truck.
  • Must be able to lift materials up to 60 pounds.
  • Manual labor is required.

Responsibilities

  • Provides feedback to coworkers, contractors and visitors on both safe and at-risk practices.
  • Supports the SGS Safety Strategic Plan and participates in safety improvement activities and efforts.
  • Performs instrument and control work which requires a high degree of skill. This includes the locating and repairing of defects in control systems involving electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic units, which controls level, pressure, temperature, position and flow parameters.
  • Performs instrument and controls work, which requires a high degree of skill in the routine checks and calibrations of plant instrumentation as required by the preventative maintenance program.
  • Communicates clearly all instrument related work to other Operation Department personnel.
  • Writes instrument related procedures, using technical manuals, electrical drawings, vendor manuals and any other applicable information.
  • Performs the necessary software, firmware and hardware repairs in order to maintain plant systems utilizing programmable logic controllers, personal computers and data loggers.
  • Maintains work area, equipment tools and instruments in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Operates company vehicles if assigned.
  • Instructs and directs other employees assigned to assist in the work.

  • Understands and follows equipment and clearance procedures and all safety practices applicable to the work.
  • Carries out preventative maintenance program as directed.
  • Maintains records and drawings within established systems.
  • Performs or assists in the disassembly, inspection, overhaul and the replacement of parts for, motors, generators, motor generators, exciters and transformers. Perform routine cleaning, adjusting, lubricating of equipment and verify work for satisfactory operation.
  • Inspects, repairs and maintains all plant lighting circuits and station auxiliary power circuits, diagnosing, locating and repairing electrical difficulties on such circuits.
  • Tests and inspects insulation on electrical equipment, operating oil filtering equipment for reconditioning transformer and circuit breaker oil, and inspect and maintain gas-charging equipment in connection with inert gas filled equipment.
  • Checks components of diesel/electric yard equipment such as fuses, wiring, batteries and replacements as needed.
  • Performs or assists in the installation, maintenance and renewal of cable, bus bar, overhead conductors, riser, jumpers, insulators, supports and bushings.
  • Observes and records readings of various meters and instruments located in stations and substations and prepare necessary reports in connection with such work.
  • Installs and maintains safety switches, magnetic switches and contactors.
  • Leads and trains technicians as required.
  • Takes a proactive approach regarding personal safety, safety of others and complies with all OSHA and SECI safety rules. Must complete all necessary online or classroom safety courses as directed. Participates in safety briefings and meetings.
  • Takes a proactive approach regarding environmental rules and regulations governing the operation of the plant. Immediately reports any, and all, environmental reportable incidents.
  • Performs other duties as applicable to the position or as assigned.
