About The Position

The Office of Communications directs the overall management and implementation of internal and external strategic communications, marketing, and public relations programs that support the Department of Watershed Management’s mission, vision, and values. The Communications Intern will assist the team in developing and delivering effective communication strategies that inform, engage, and educate both internal staff and the public about the department’s programs, initiatives, and accomplishments.

Requirements

  • Must be eighteen years of age or older
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States of America
  • Must be a sophomore or above college student at application submission
  • Minimum overall GPA 3.0

  • Currently pursuing a bachelors, associates or above from an accredited college or university.
  • Must have at least one semester remaining at the start of the internship
  • Must attach Resume (NO screenshots)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and digital communication tools.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Professional demeanor and ability to interact effectively with diverse audiences.

Nice To Haves

  • Basic knowledge of graphic design and marketing principles is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with Adobe Creative Cloud is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in drafting, editing, and proofreading press releases, newsletters, and other communication materials.
  • Support the creation of content for the department’s website, social media platforms, and digital newsletters.
  • Participate in planning and coordinating public outreach events and community engagement activities.
  • Help design marketing materials such as flyers, presentations, and infographics.
  • Conduct research on media trends, community issues, and public feedback to support communication strategies.
  • Maintain and organize media contact lists, photo libraries, and communication archives.
  • Attend departmental meetings and assist with note taking and documentation.
  • Ensure all communication materials align with the department’s branding and messaging standards.
  • Perform other related administrative or creative tasks as assigned.
