Reuters is looking for an ambitious and experienced journalist to help lead its text breaking news team covering the United States and Canada. The breaking news team is at the heart of Reuters’ political and general news coverage of some of world’s biggest stories and events—from Donald Trump’s White House to U.S. elections and national affairs. This fast-paced team sits at the forefront of the daily news file and is the first responder to major stories. The team sends headlines/alerts and handles updates of major stories, working hand-in-hand with reporting teams covering the White House, Congress, national affairs, the economy, and other subjects. This fast-paced role requires deep knowledge of U.S. political and general news and experience covering stories or managing reporting teams producing stories quickly and accurately. To be successful, you must bring energy and ambition but also a commitment to working with visuals teams to ensure our coverage is holistic across formats. You should thrive in a breaking news environment and be comfortable leveraging artificial intelligence to improve our journalism and drive reporting efficiency. The editor will help manage a dedicated team of breaking news reporters working in shifts seven days a week. The role, which will liaise closely with Reuters One Newsroom leaders and other U.S.-Canada editors, will report to the Deputy Editor for Breaking and Daily News for North America. This role will be based in either our Washington DC or New York bureaus.
