JOB SUMMARY The Lead Substance Abuse Counselor interact with clients on a day-to-day basis providing individual and group counseling. The Lead Substance Abuse Counselor provides clients with orientation, training, substance abuse recovery skills and information, and leadership necessary to provide them with the ability to change their behavior and educate them on the dangers of driving while intoxicated.

Requirements

  • Must meet one of the following: Certification through a recognized alcohol and drug certification entity plus five years of experience working with alcohol and drug related issues/addictions, preferred, OR, Actively working toward a recognized alcohol and drug certification and three years of experience working with alcohol and drug related issues/addictions, OR, B.A./B.S. degree in human service field and one year of experience working with alcohol and drug related issues/addictions
  • Three years of experience providing California’s Title 9 DUI program curriculum services
  • Ability to produce legible, clear, and concise written documentation
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and EHR software
  • Ability to set priorities, problem solve, and react appropriately to emergency situations
  • Ability to work independently and effectively collaborate with a team

Responsibilities

  • The Lead Substance Abuse Counselor acts as the lead staff and provides program oversight in the absence of the Program Manager. Acts as a role model to other program staff.
  • Maintain a caseload as prescribed by the Program Manager. Provide a variety of interventions which focus on DUI curriculum including individual and group counseling, and other relevant sobriety-related services to clients.
  • Responsible for AOD/SUD Intern students training and oversight.
  • Document, review, and chart client progress; Complete all required paperwork, on time.
  • Remain available to schedule client intakes, discharges, program transfers and monitors clients leave of absence.
  • Attend staff meetings and provide input to develop and improve program services and delivery.
  • Assign caseload and other tasks to counselors and oversees scheduling.
  • Monitor client records, including payment logs, in accordance with contractual requirements and for quality improvement.
  • Maintain current knowledge of community resources for continued community treatment.
  • Assist other staff in dealing with problematic client behavior.
  • Act as co-leader in assigned groups.
  • Other relevant duties as assigned.
  • Comply with all TURN and program rules, policies and procedures including HIPPA standards.
