About The Position

Working in collaboration with colleagues, the dual language classroom teacher will create a classroom environment that implements a district approved curriculum to ensure an equitable, engaging, and positive learning experience for all dual language students. Candidates must demonstrate Spanish language proficiency either through achievement of an OSPI Bilingual Education endorsement or by completing the ACTFL oral and written language assessments or equivalent. The ACTFL assessment will be administered as part of the interview process; candidates must score at the advanced-low level in both oral and written Spanish to be considered for employment as a dual language instructor.

  • Washington State Teaching Certificate with endorsements in Elementary Education and Spanish Bilingual Education OR in Elementary Education with Spanish ACTFL assessment or equivalent scores of minimally Advanced-Low, or the ability to obtain the needed qualifications prior to the position start date..

Responsibilities

  • Instructs students using strategies conducive to dual-language immersion, such as explicit language development and cooperative learning.
  • Collaborates in professional communities of collaboration with other teachers, support staff, and others as appropriate, in addressing the needs of students, developing effective teaching and learning practices in Spanish and English.
  • Conducts planning for lessons using commonly accepted professional dual language immersion practices (content, goals, assessment, re-teaching, etc.) and consistent with school/district approved curriculum and instructional practice. The teacher uses research-based instructional strategies in planning lessons to make the teaching and learning more relevant to students (e.g., contextual learning opportunities).
  • Utilizes Universal Design for Learning , and/or language development strategies to instruct students with varying levels of language proficiency in English and/or the target language.
  • Uses a variety of formal and informal learning assessments to monitor student progress toward achievement of the learning objectives and modify instructional methods and materials as needed.
  • Communicates positively and regularly with monolingual English/Spanish and limited English- speaking parents and/or legal guardians in the areas of growth, student progress, and teacher expectations; develop meaningful collaboration between home and school.
  • Participates in professional learning opportunities in support of District-wide mission, vision and goals.
  • Demonstrates an awareness of and sensitivity to multicultural and multilingual values and environments.
  • Participate actively on various teams including: Building Leadership Team membership. Attendance and engagement in all staff and department meetings. Contribution to scheduling and preparation for monthly department meetings. Involvement in district and building equity initiatives.
  • Maintain professionalism and a learner stance by: Attending all relevant professional development and training opportunities to accomplish the objectives of the position. Ensure compliance with all Federal and State grant requirements as well as District program requirements. Complying with supervision and evaluation procedures. Complying with District policies and the Code of Professional Conduct. Maintaining consistent attendance and conforming to regular work hours specified under contract. Fulfilling other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

  • Selection for interview is based on evaluation of complete application file. Employment offer is based on employee evaluations, discipline history and attendance records, training and experience, references, and interview results.
  • Hourly rate placement contingent upon verification of related experience. Employment contingent upon completion and verification of form information and background check with fee to be paid by applicant.
  • Pay for contracted classified employees is distributed once/month on the last business day of the month. Pay for employees who work less than full year is spread through August. Questions concerning pay processes may be directed to the Personnel Office.
  • Eligibility for SEBB medical, dental, vision, life insurance, AD&D, and LTD if anticipated to reach 630 hours in the school year.
  • Eligibility for retirement based on 3.50 hrs/day or more for 5 or more consecutive months.
  • Optional tax-sheltered annuities: Omni 403(b) and Deferred Compensation Plan.
  • Personal leave, vacation leave (260-day employees only), and sick leave prorated based on FTE.
