About The Position

Kindergarten Dual Language Teacher – 2025–2026 School Year – In-Person Ampersand Therapy is seeking a passionate and dedicated Kindergarten Dual Language Teacher for the 2025–2026 school year! This is a full-time, in-person opportunity for educators who are committed to fostering bilingualism, biliteracy, and multicultural understanding while supporting students’ academic and social-emotional growth. Under the direction of the building administrator and multilingual department, the Dual Language Teacher implements a comprehensive instructional program designed to help students achieve academic excellence while becoming bilingual, biliterate, and culturally responsive life-long learners.

Requirements

  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) — Type 03 or equivalent
  • Endorsement in ESL and Bilingual Education (Spanish/English) required
  • Ability to communicate effectively and clearly in both academic and conversational English and Spanish, orally and in writing
  • Fingerprinting required prior to start

Nice To Haves

  • Transitional Bilingual (Spanish/English) Certificate (Type 29) accepted but not required
  • Minimum of two years of experience as a bilingual English/Spanish instructor preferred but not required

Responsibilities

  • Schedule, plan, and instruct students using district-aligned curriculum that supports both content mastery and language acquisition.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans aligned to Common Core and WIDA standards in all subject areas, including English Language Development (ELD) and Spanish Language Arts (SLA) .
  • Provide engaging instruction in both English and Spanish to the whole class, small groups, and individual students.
  • Establish a nurturing, safe, and inclusive classroom environment that supports the social-emotional development of young learners.
  • Modify and adapt instruction to meet the linguistic and developmental needs of each student.
  • Use developmentally appropriate instructional language in both English and Spanish that aligns with students’ proficiency levels.
  • Create and maintain a classroom environment that respects and celebrates students’ cultural and linguistic diversity.
  • Conduct screenings and assessments to determine eligibility for bilingual/EL services and measure student progress in both English and Spanish.
  • Monitor student growth, maintain accurate academic and language records, and implement interventions as needed.
  • Collaborate with grade-level teams, dual language staff, and administrators to review data, plan lessons, and support student success.
  • Communicate consistently with families in both English and Spanish about student progress and classroom activities.
  • Participate in professional learning communities, staff meetings, and professional development opportunities.
  • Provide guidance to colleagues regarding bilingual curriculum and instructional best practices.
  • Support and uphold school policies, values, and initiatives focused on equity, inclusion, and excellence.
  • Participate in family events and school activities beyond the regular workday when needed.
