About The Position

The Morris County Vocational School District has an opening for a Dual Enrollment and Secondary Counselor (10-month position). The position is available January 2026. Job Goal: To provide comprehensive guidance and support to students participating in the Dual Enrollment/Grade 12 Option program, ensuring a smooth transition to college coursework and successful completion of high school graduation requirements. This includes assisting students in making informed decisions about their academic pathways, navigating college systems, and accessing necessary resources.

Requirements

  • New Jersey School Counselor Certification
  • A strong understanding of college and high school academic systems, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and a commitment to supporting student success in a dual enrollment environment.

Responsibilities

  • Academic Planning: Guide 12th-grade students in selecting college courses that meet high school graduation, academy curriculum, and college prerequisite requirements.
  • Personalized Advising: Collaborate with students to create college schedules that accommodate individual academic needs and extracurricular obligations.
  • Intervention & Support: Proactively offer support strategies and intervention for students experiencing academic difficulty, fostering self-advocacy and effective communication with college faculty.
  • Resource Navigation: Inform students about partner college policies, procedures, and critical support resources (e.g., tutoring, accessibility services).
  • Onboarding Management: Oversee and execute the entire student onboarding process, including application, necessary testing, and final registration assistance.
  • Documentation Integrity: Ensure timely completion of all required program contracts, applications, and testing, maintaining accurate records of student participation and progress.
  • Policy Enforcement: Ensure student and parent adherence to MCVSD and partner college codes of conduct, academic integrity standards, and procedural policies (e.g., add/drop/withdrawal, transfer credits).
  • Performance Monitoring: Track and report on student progress, specifically monitoring grades and attendance in college coursework.
  • Liaison Function: Act as the primary point of communication between students, parents, MCVSD staff, county-wide Directors of Guidance, and all partner colleges.
  • Curriculum Alignment: Work closely with external College Program Coordinators and Curriculum Supervisors to ensure MCVSD coursework aligns with partner college curricula.
  • Program Promotion: Assist in developing and delivering orientations for students, parents, and faculty.
  • Professional Development: Maintain comprehensive, current knowledge of partner college programs, policies, and procedural changes.
  • Perform such other duties which may be within the scope of employment and certification or as may be assigned by the supervisor.
