Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED from an accredited educational institution
  • Able to communicate effectively with the individuals to whom services are provided
  • Should have experience working with people with intellectual disabilities or with other types of special needs populations
  • Have patience and positive coaching skills to assist AM with successfully reaching his goals
  • Enjoy being active and proactively partner with AM while engaging in activities, events and volunteer efforts of choice
  • Will be resourceful in researching community activities, volunteer efforts, and enjoy introducing new ideas

Nice To Haves

  • Someone who will take the initiative to present new ideas to the person supported for community outings and activities
  • A person who is patient because the person supported sometimes gets impatient when they don't get what they wants
  • MUST be willing to transport the person supported to their various activities and community outings
  • Must be willing to assist the person supported to improve their daily living skills by helping them become more independent at performing activities of daily living

Responsibilities

  • Support individuals in achieving their personal goals and fulfilling their dreams by having a “person-centered” focus
  • Teach independent living and daily skills to the persons-served by identifying and meeting social, environmental, and health care needs such as daily grooming and personal care routines
  • Actively plans, coordinates, and participates with residents in social activities including frequent community outings
  • Instructs, supports and participates in performing household tasks with persons served such as cleaning, preparing meals, food shopping, etc
