About The Position

The DS FO Engineer provides expert-level engineering support for fiber optic infrastructure including network backbone, distribution, and drop fiber systems. This role oversees GDIT, Agency, and Subcontractor fiber survey, installation, splicing, and testing teams.

Requirements

  • BA/BS or equivalent, 5+ years of experience
  • 5+ years hands-on fiber optic installation, engineering, or testing experience
  • Strong experience in OTDR, OLTS, fusion splicing, inspection, and fiber certification
  • Experience managing fiber technicians or subcontractor splicing/testing teams
  • Understanding of fiber types, connectors, attenuation, dispersion, WDM, and optical transport principles
  • Experience with fiber backbone or campus-scale deployments
  • Secret Security Clearance

Nice To Haves

  • DoD, AF/SF, or large-scale enterprise fiber infrastructure experience
  • Experience with high-density fiber systems or modern optical architectures
  • FOA CFOT (required or strongly preferred)
  • FOA CFOS/T, CFOS/S, or CFOS/O (any specialty)
  • BICSI Technician or RCDD (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Conduct detailed fiber assessments, routing verification, and documentation reviews
  • Develop splice schedules, fiber diagrams, optical power budgets, and routing plans
  • Manage GDIT, Agency, and Subcontractor fiber technicians performing splicing, testing, and termination activities
  • Oversee fiber characterization including OTDR, OLTS, inspection, and certification
  • Troubleshoot fiber performance issues and recommend remediation solutions
  • Coordinate with OSP, NW, and CEL engineers for space, routing, and connectivity integration
  • Validate engineering deliverables and as-built documentation
  • Provide SME-level support during design reviews and testing phases
