About The Position

The Drug and Alcohol Counselor is responsible for developing and facilitating the Center’s alcohol, drug, and tobacco prevention program. This role involves educating and counseling students to reduce and prevent drug-related separations from the program, as well as developing individualized case management plans to enhance student retention and success. The counselor ensures confidentiality of sensitive information and compliance with all HIPAA laws, and follows integrity guidelines to prevent manipulation of student data. Key duties include developing and implementing prevention activities, coordinating community resources for substance use education, and administering the Center’s drug testing program. The counselor provides comprehensive and individualized case management, establishes supportive/mentoring relationships with students, and offers individual and group counseling on substance abuse. The position requires producing quality work, maintaining attendance and productivity standards, planning and prioritizing assignments, and continuously developing job skills. The counselor is expected to mentor and model Career Success Standards, show respect to students while holding them accountable, and ensure the quality of programs and services. Effective communication, problem-solving, and collaboration with other departments are also essential. The counselor accepts direction and supervision from the Center Director, Center Duty Officer, or Shift Manager, including temporary assignments to other departments.

Requirements

  • Active, unrestricted substance abuse license or certification that meets minimum state licensing or certification requirements to practice in the state where the center is located.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and facilitate the Center’s alcohol, drug and tobacco prevention program.
  • Educate and counsel students to reduce and prevent drug-related separations from the program.
  • Develop individualized case management plans to enhance student retention and success.
  • Ensure confidentiality of sensitive information and compliance with all HIPAA laws.
  • Follow all integrity guidelines and procedures and ensure no manipulation of student data.
  • Develop and implement alcohol, drug and tobacco prevention activities and integrate services into Center’s programmatic functions.
  • Develop and coordinate community resources for educating students on substance use and abuse.
  • Administer Center’s drug testing program to promote a drug-free environment.
  • Provide students with comprehensive and individualized case management ensuring student progress, retention and completion of the Job Corps program.
  • Establish supportive/mentoring relationships with students throughout their enrollment and provide substance abuse counseling and education.
  • Counsel students individually and in groups on substance abuse.
  • Produce quality work/assignments in a thorough, timely and accurate manner.
  • Maintain appropriate personal attendance, accountability and work productivity standards.
  • Plan, prioritize and organize assignments to meet established goals and deadlines.
  • Understand and apply job knowledge to effectively complete all required job responsibilities.
  • Proactively maintain the skills required to perform job duties.
  • Mentor, monitor and model the Career Success Standards as required by the PRH.
  • Show respect and courtesy to students and hold them accountable for their actions and behavior.
  • Provide quality programs and services for students and ensure that quality is maintained and student needs are met.
  • Pursue improvement and enhancement of programs and services.
  • Exchange ideas and information, both orally and in writing, in a clear and concise manner and contribute meaningfully to group efforts by offering relevant ideas and knowledge.
  • Provide quality and timely information to DOL/Company when requested.
  • Effectively articulate thoughts and ideas.
  • Identify problems, analyze causes and evaluate appropriate solutions prior to taking or recommending actions.
  • Follow up to ensure prompt/appropriate action is taken and that problems are in fact corrected.
  • Work in partnership with staff from all Departments to ensure effective supervision and services are provided to students.
  • Accept direction and supervision from the Center Director/Center Duty Officer/Shift Manager to include assignments to temporarily perform job responsibilities of other departments and positions.
