PRN STATUS AND SCHEDULING EXPECTATIONS This position is classified as PRN and is not guaranteed hours. Scheduling is based on operational needs, including coverage for absences, vacancies, and increased service demand. Employee may be contacted to work shifts on short notice. Employee may accept or decline offered shifts; however, continued PRN status is dependent on maintaining reasonable availability and responsiveness. In accordance with FHW policy, PRN employees are required to work a minimum of one shift per month to maintain active employment status. Failure to meet this requirement may result in removal from PRN status or separation of employment.

Requirements

  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Licenses: No professional license required, Current Colorado Driver’s License required.
  • Certifications: No professional certification required.
  • Experience: 1-2 years related experience required or preferred.

Responsibilities

  • When assigned to dispatch duties, coordinate and support daily transportation schedules to assist with timely and efficient route coverage, including supporting driver break times.
  • Receive and organize transportation requests and assign trips based on established scheduling protocols and vehicle availability.
  • Monitor route progress and communicate schedule adjustments as needed to maintain service continuity.
  • Communicate route updates, delays, and operational changes to drivers and internal departments in a clear and professional manner.
  • Identify operational concerns, service gaps, scheduling conflicts, or safety observations and immediately bring them to the attention of the Transportation Manager for review and direction.
  • Support drivers by relaying scheduling information and clarifying trip assignments, while deferring performance, conduct, or disciplinary matters to the Transportation Manager.
  • Maintain accurate scheduling records, trip documentation, and mileage reporting.
  • Track vehicle availability and coordinate service or maintenance scheduling in collaboration with the Transportation Manager.
  • Immediately report accidents, incidents, vehicle damage, traffic citations, or passenger concerns in accordance with established procedures.
  • Maintain professional communication with staff, patients, residents, and community partners.
  • Serve as a backup driver and or transportation aide when operational needs require.
  • Participate in required safety training, lift operation training, and departmental meetings
  • Perform other job related duties as assigned.
  • Safely operate assigned vehicles in accordance with all federal, state, and local laws and FHW policies and procedures.
  • Transport patients, residents, and other authorized passengers to medical appointments, services, and scheduled trips as coordinated through the Transportation Department.
  • Maintain reliable and punctual attendance when scheduled or when accepting assigned shifts to support uninterrupted transportation services.
  • Conduct and document pre trip and post trip vehicle inspections and immediately report any mechanical concerns, safety issues, or maintenance needs to the Transportation Manager.
  • Maintain vehicles in a clean, fueled, and operationally ready condition, including assisting with routine interior and exterior cleaning of Family Health West vehicles.
  • Transport passengers safely, courteously, and professionally while maintaining confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA requirements when applicable.
  • Assist passengers with loading and unloading as needed, including the safe operation of wheelchair lifts and passenger assistance equipment.
  • Comply with all wheelchair securement, passenger restraint, and lift operation safety standards in accordance with applicable transportation and safety regulations.
  • Conduct basic passenger safety checks prior to transport to ensure seat belts, wheelchairs, and mobility devices are properly secured.
  • Follow established communication procedures to ensure driver, resident, and passenger safety during transportation services.
  • Maintain accurate trip logs, mileage documentation, fuel records, and any required transportation reporting forms.
  • Communicate schedule updates, delays, or passenger concerns to the Dispatcher or Transportation Manager in a timely manner.
  • Work cooperatively with nursing staff and other departments to support the timely coordination of patient and resident transportation services.
  • Adhere to all vehicle safety protocols, infection control standards when applicable, and organizational policies.
  • Support efficient fleet operations by minimizing unnecessary mileage, idle time, and fuel consumption.
  • Perform other job related duties as assigned.
