About The Position

Driver Attendant is light manual work in the operation of motor vehicles used to transport the ill. Work involves responsibility for the safe operation of passenger vehicles such as vans, station wagons or automobiles in transporting ill persons. Incumbents typically transport patients to clinics, hospitals or other treatment facilities from nursing homes or private residences.

Requirements

  • Generally, requires 0 to 3 years of related experience.
  • High School diploma is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work accurately while meeting multiple deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
  • Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with critical thinking and professional composure.
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions.
  • Ability to exercise sound and independent judgment.
  • Knowledge and skill in use of job appropriate technology and software applications.
  • Chauffeur's license and satisfactory driving record is required.
  • Must have a clean driving record, free from major traffic offenses such as accidents, DUIs, and traffic violations.

Responsibilities

  • Operates passenger vehicles to transport patients between nursing or private homes and clinics or other medical facilities.
  • transports clients being treated under rehabilitation programs to clinics or other treatment or diagnostic facilities.
  • Administers first aid in emergencies to patients in transit;
  • transports patients to appropriate facility for further care.
  • Completes dispatch records showing patients name, destination mileage and other related information.
  • Assures that assigned vehicles are clean and adequately supplied with fuel; reports need for maintenance to supervisor.
  • Responds to Medical Emergencies in the Ambulatory Care Center (East/West).
  • May be responsible for transporting sensitive medical supplies, equipment, or medications, requiring careful handling, timely delivery, and adherence to specific risk protocols.
  • Demonstrates behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Expertise). Performs all other related job duties as assigned.
