About The Position

The DREAM Development Intern serves as an AmeriCorps member supporting special projects that strengthen DREAM’s capacity and help us reach more youth and families. This position is designed to provide broad exposure to the field of nonprofit development while offering hands-on experience in organizational growth, strategy, communications, partnerships, and systems-building. Throughout the summer, the member will contribute to a range of development and capacity-building efforts, which may include marketing collateral, database work, networking and organizing, campaign frameworks, partnership outreach, and growth planning. In addition to this broad experience, each Development Intern will focus primarily on one of two strategic project areas that support DREAM’s future growth. This position is ideal for someone who is excited to learn about nonprofit leadership and development, enjoys both strategy and hands-on project work, and wants to help build structures that expand opportunity for youth.

Requirements

  • This position is enrolled as AmeriCorps members (see here for more information) and receive a living stipend. To be an AmeriCorps member you MUST be 17 years or older, and be a US Citizen, US National, or Lawful Permanent Resident Alien.
  • Interest in nonprofit leadership, development, strategy, fundraising, communications, and/or organizational growth.
  • Commitment to DREAM’s mission.
  • Experience working or living in a diverse and inclusive environment with elevated, demonstrated awareness of issues of social equity and social and racial justice.
  • Demonstrated practice or education serving diverse communities or populations of people of color in an equitable manner and a manner that is respectful and aware of the community’s experience.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage time, set priorities, and follow through on projects.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Access to resources necessary to support your telework/service experience, including a reliable WIFI connection and access to devices that can connect with cloud-based software.
  • Willingness to travel to meet with your team when needed.
  • Access to a reliable phone.

Responsibilities

  • Support a variety of nonprofit development and capacity-building projects that help DREAM grow and strengthen its programming.
  • Assist with projects related to communications, marketing collateral, donor and alumni engagement, database organization, campaign planning, partnership outreach, and strategic growth efforts.
  • Conduct research, organize information, and help develop tools, materials, and frameworks that support organizational effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with DREAM staff on special projects connected to long-term growth and sustainability.
  • Participate in regular check-ins, trainings, and team meetings, primarily virtually and occasionally in person.
  • Take primary responsibility for one of the following focal areas: Build DREAM’s Alumni Organization: Help strengthen and shape a vibrant and lasting alumni community by supporting the development of organizing structures, networking, leadership recruitment, alumni data systems, events and activity planning, rollout strategies, and communications approaches. Explore an Early Education Pilot: Help explore a potential bridge between a local preschool and DREAM families. Survey families to gauge interest, research state structures for financial support, help create marketing collateral to make the case to families, and support planning for a pilot serving 3 to 5 families.
