About The Position

Create and alter garments for 3 Productions during the Wolf Trap Opera summer season. Working with the Costume Shop Manager, Costume Designer and Design Assistant, provide estimates for materials needed to accomplish the design. Supervise team of First Hands, Stitchers, and Apprentices as assigned by the Costume Shop Manager. Conduct fittings on all assigned garments to determine proper fit and construction needs.

Requirements

Strong working knowledge of Costume History and Construction.
Ability to create patterns from renderings for all types of costumes.
Ability to determine what alterations, if any, are necessary for pulled, rented and purchased costumes.
Minimum of three years working in a professional or educational environment.
Experience with period garments of all genders.
Opera and/or Theatre experience.
Sensitivity and commitment to the mission of Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts.
