Under general supervision, the Drainage Technician II operates various vehicles, heavy equipment, and specialized machinery within the Drainage Division of the Public Works Department. This position performs a range of construction, maintenance, and drainage system operations while ensuring safety compliance and efficient execution of tasks. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: Operates medium sized, specialized equipment in the performance of a variety of construction, maintenance, and other work including their use of attachments designed to perform specialized tasks in combination with the vehicle’s operation or mode of function and performs light to heavy physical labor. Typical work will be operating backhoes, front-end loaders, bobcats, vac trucks, side loading sanitation equipment, and other heavy equipment. Ensure safety rules and regulations are followed. Performs safety inspections of vehicles and equipment. Maintains activity reports. Provides assistance to other drivers as necessary. Perform other duties as assigned. Supports the relationship between the City of Galveston and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors, and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned. Employees may at any time be required to work in order to provide for the safety and well-being of the general public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services, in the event of an emergency.
