About The Position

WSP USA has an immediate opening in our Chicago office for a Drainage Engineer. This is an exciting opportunity to work on a wide variety of transportation and infrastructure projects throughout the state of Illinois and across the Midwest. This includes leading the hydrology and hydraulics efforts on major highways, local roads, design-builds, site development, transit & rail, airports, and other transportation related projects. The selected candidate will be working with a team of highly qualified engineers and technicians on a multitude of transportation projects. The projects will consist of all stages of delivery, including concept, preliminary and final engineering design. A strong understanding of IDOT and local agency drainage policies and procedures will be an integral part of the design work. In addition, experience and practical knowledge of the following drainage software is essential: HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, HY8, XPSWMM, GEOPAK Drainage, and Microstation. Other responsibilities include providing drainage design for hydraulic modeling and studies, report preparation, drainage design including inlet spacing and pipe sizing, culvert analysis, bridge scour, erosion and sediment control, plan preparation, special provisions, estimating, permitting, and other tasks related to civil engineering and drainage design. The role will also include collaboration within project and stakeholder teams. The ideal candidate will actively contribute to the overall success of transportation infrastructure projects in Illinois, including projects with the Illinois Department of Transportation, Illinois Tollway, and other agencies throughout metropolitan Chicago. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of drainage and site civil experience, including a strong background in drainage studies and design for DOT type transportation projects.
  • Experience in: HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, HY8, XPSWMM, and GEOPAK Drainage
  • Work-related experience in hydrologic and hydraulic design of stormwater systems, including detention facilities, bridges, and culverts.
  • Authorization to immediately work in the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Engineering (PE) in Illinois and Certified Floodplain Manager
  • Experience with CADD, including MicroStation, Civil3D, or InRoads.
  • Experience in storm water management reports, IDOT location drainage studies and hydraulic reports, IL-Tollway concept drainage report and SWPPP.
  • Experience leading design tasks and managing junior design staff
  • Strong written and oral communications skills are required.
