About The Position

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Drainage Engineer for our Florida Civil Group! This position will sit out of our Tampa, FL office! This Opportunity Primarily provides engineering support on transportation projects while also supporting our planning, transportation, and technical services business lines. Tasks may include generating CADD plans, reports and permit applications for various projects that range in scale from small to large and involve all levels of complexity. Generates accurate and concise deliverables including calculations, drainage models, plans, 3D models, reports and permit applications. Ensures responsibilities and governing criteria are adhered to while producing quality deliverables that meet or exceed acceptable industry standards for design, accuracy, and functionality. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering
  • 5 or more years of relevant post education experience in civil engineering and design
  • Familiar with engineering and drafting support principles, practices, process, methods and techniques.
  • Highly familiar with relevant codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
  • Sound interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a technical and non-technical audience.
  • Sound self-leadership with attention to detail, accuracy, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow instruction, and comply with company policies.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
  • Analytical mindset to exercise sound judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions.
  • Basic proficiency in technical writing, Office software, and discipline-specific software (i.e. MicroStation/Open Roads Designer (ORD), AutoCAD, Civil 3D, ArcGIS, ICPR/StormWise, HEC-RAS), technology, math principles, spreadsheets, and tools.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • FDOT drainage plans production experience
  • Experience in infrastructure design on design-bid-build and design-build projects
  • Proficient with MicroStation/Open Roads Designer
  • Proficient with ICPR, HEC-RAS and other drainage modeling software
  • Proficient with AutoCAD
  • Proficient with ProjectWise

Responsibilities

  • Assist with collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from the project site, permits, GIS, as-built plans, surveys, PD&E and planning studies, drainage reports, subsurface utility exploration, and hydrologic and hydraulic analysis to support engineering and computer-aided design and drafting (CADD) drafting activities.
  • With minimal supervision, use drainage and 3D CADD software while working closely with staff to resolve design details or discrepancies and prepare drawings that require a high degree of precision on projects of varying complexity and scope.
  • Apply high-level civil engineering techniques and processes to identify improvements for various infrastructure project phases including concept development, planning, preliminary design, final design, procurement, post-design, and operation.
  • Develop construction plans, drainage models, and reports that require coordination with stakeholders, other engineering disciplines, sub-consultants, and clients.
  • From project inception to completion, manage the drainage design for infrastructure projects, including minor safety improvements, resurfacing, rehabilitation, widening, reconstruction, and new construction projects.
  • Coordinate, review, and approve plans to ensure compliance with city and county code as well as state and federal regulations. Ensure plans and calculations satisfy applicable FDOT criteria as well as water management district regulations.
  • Work collaboratively as the engineer-in-charge or with the engineer-in-charge and other technical professionals from drainage and other engineering disciplines on assigned projects and tasks.
  • Collaborate with other engineers, professionals, and clients on federal, state, regional, and local projects and business development opportunities.
  • Complete training on assigned tasks.
  • Exhibit knowledge of drainage engineering standards and remain current in the latest civil engineering techniques and practices.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of FDOT’s Drainage Manual, Drainage Design Guide, Standard Plans, Design Manual, Standard Specifications and other governing criteria.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
