Overall Purpose: Under semi direct supervision, to perform drafting, field work and other tasks of moderate complexity requiring basic skills and knowledge in the electrical and civil engineering disciplines.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of an Associates degree from a Technical Trade school in Computer Aided Drafting, Electronics Technology, Electrical Technology, or Electrical Engineering Technology or 2 years of equivalent drafting experience.
  • 3 years experience as a Drafting Technician C to advance to Drafting Technician B.
  • 2 years experience as a Drafting Technician B to advance to Senior Drafting Technician.
  • Must pass the company administered standardized test (TECH).
  • Must demonstrate moderate skill in measuring, drawing and lettering using CAD techniques.
  • Must demonstrate reasonable proficiency for making mathematics computations necessary to perform the duties of the job.
  • Must demonstrate a general knowledge of Duquesne Light Company safety handbook.
  • Must have the ability to identify colors on engineering drawing mark-ups and draft linework using common layer colors by drawing type as specified in the DLC Substation Drawing Guidelines.
  • Must have a valid State Driver's License.

Responsibilities

  • The technician will use Computer Aided Design (CAD) software to prepare drawings and other documents required for the development and completion of a project as instructed.
  • Reviews, revises or corrects drawings and other documents as instructed.
  • Makes field trips as instructed with others and performs manual tasks when requested for the purpose of determining layout and design and obtaining necessary information and measurements.
  • Uses computers and copiers as directed to perform assigned work.
  • Drafts job material lists in CAD and drawing manifests pertaining to the assigned work as instructed.
  • As instructed, searches files and records to obtain necessary information to complete a project.
  • Maintains job records and files pertaining to the assigned work.
  • Occasionally contacts other sections, departments or others to obtain or exchange information of a moderate nature pertaining to the assigned work.
  • Keeps supervisor generally informed of activities when acting without detailed instructions.
  • Performs other work as required or as assigned.
