About The Position

Under the general direction of the Department Manager, the Dosimetrist works closely with the Radiation Oncologists, Medical Physicist, Manager of Radiation Oncology and Radiation Therapists. Interprets the prescription for a course of radiation therapy and generates radiation dose distributions and calculations for each patient.

Requirements

  • Licensed with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
  • Medical Dosimetry Certification Board eligible, certified within 2 years of hire
  • Current Washington State Licensure in Radiologic Technology/Therapeutic.
  • Current Healthcare Provider BLS - American Heart Association by start date
  • Graduate from an accredited program of Dosimetry
  • Experience with Radiation Oncology treatment planning and related systems
  • Knowledge of charge capture for dosimetry procedure billing

Nice To Haves

  • Graduate from an accredited school of Radiation Therapy Technology
  • Practical experience in Advanced Radiation Therapy Dosimetry Planning, i.e. IMRT, SBRT, Brachytherapy, etc.
  • Practical experience as a Radiation Therapist
  • Graduate from an approved program of Dosimetry and board eligible

Responsibilities

  • Following the dose prescription specified by the radiation oncologist, plans a treatment technique by means of computer and/or manual computation that will deliver a prescribed radiation dose to a defined tumor volume.
  • Coordinates treatment simulations and tumor localizations, including diagnostic imaging studies such as CT, PET and MRI, when indicated for radiation therapy treatment planning.
  • Supervises and/or assists in planning of the fabrication of compensating filters, custom shields, wedges, and other beam modifying devices.
  • Supervises and/or assists in the planning or the production of moulds, casts, and other immobilization devices.
  • Supervises the therapist staff in the implementation of the treatment plan i.e.: correct use of immobilization devices, compensators, wedges, field arrangement, and other treatment parameters.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
