About The Position

The Donor Services Supervisor is responsible for the efficient and effective operation of all blood collection activities and staff management to ensure donor and product safety, excellent customer service, adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) and quality assurance. This position reports to a Donor Services Manager. The Donor Services Supervisor also collaborates with Donor Services Managers, Department Directors and Medical Directors as necessary to effectively resolve medical, operational and customer service challenges. Effectively leads collection staff operations as evidenced by achievement of daily whole blood and automation collection expectations (mobiles and fixed), a successful donor experience (customer service) and positive staff environment. Mentors and educates staff on performance and donor management which results in donors maximizing their donation. Delegates responsibilities appropriately. Establishes good working relationships with subordinates, consistently role models professionalism. Demonstrates critical decision-making regarding donor eligibility and operations. Utilizes effective communication and conflict management skills with management team, peers and subordinates. Addresses staff conflict situations proactively, demonstrating leadership and professionalism. Collaborates with Donor Resources staff to effectively recruit/retain donors, maximize collection opportunities and meet RIBC goals. Effectively participates in staff performance management process and career ladder advancement. Collaborates with DS management regarding coaching, counseling and discipline. Documents staff counseling appropriately and timely. Ensures accurate documentation and QA, as evidenced by a consistent low error and QNS rate. Performs daily quality control activities, reviews donor records for accuracy and completeness, works closely with QA Training/Education department to ensure strict adherence to SOP’s. Completes all required blood collection paperwork, oversees and approves staff hours, signing/scanning in and out of work. Participate in Departmental Policy and Procedure Development and Implementation including: ongoing management of operation; attend and participate in Supervisor and other RIBC meetings; provide input into scheduling process; communicate issues to Director, Managers and other departments in timely and appropriate manner, and recommend appropriate solutions; accept other duties as assigned. Maintain competency in blood collection skills, including automation. Maintain flexible schedule

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Computer skills required.
  • Detail oriented with strong organization and time management skills.
  • The ability to deal effectively with a variety of people through excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrates leadership and critical decision-making ability.
  • Must be able to fluently speak, read, write, and comprehend English.

Nice To Haves

  • Nursing degree or Clinical Laboratory Scientist (ASCP MT, SBB, BB, NCA CLS certification) preferred.
  • Three years of blood banking and/or donor collections experience preferred
  • One year supervisory experience preferred.
