About The Position

Reporting to the President & CEO the Donor Engagement Officer (DEO) will serve as a member of the Advancement team and a lead fundraising strategist for the organization. The DEO will forge relationships with new and existing donors to build upon visibility, impact, financial resources, and the overall network. The DEO must be a highly articulate communicator, a skilled relationship builder, and come with demonstrated success in previous or current fundraising roles.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 2+ years of experience in fundraising, donor development, and/or marketing required
  • Nonprofit experience required
  • At least three years of successful individual major giving experience in non-profit development.
  • Record of successfully engaging leadership and Board members in the fundraising process.
  • Valid and Current Driver’s License.
  • Meet State “Good Moral Character” guidelines.
  • Ability to create and execute complex project plans from start to finish.
  • High responsiveness to stakeholders and sensitivity to unique donor needs
  • Exceptional organizational skills, both for personal tasks and for the coordination of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

  • Lived experience in child welfare and/or homelessness strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the President & CEO to identify potential prospects from the current HCS giving program.
  • Develop and maintain a strong understanding of HCS’s mission and programs, maintaining collaborative working relationships with all departments to craft messages for potential major donor program sponsors and partnerships.
  • Develop and implement major gift donor strategies including identification, cultivation, solicitation, and retention for a portfolio of both current and prospective donors.
  • Responsible for setting and meeting annual revenue targets and for providing regular progress updates to the President & CEO.
  • Develop funding requests based on the goals of the organization for high-net-worth individuals and play a lead role in soliciting and closing major gifts.
  • Cultivates and solicits individual donor prospects who are capable of contributing major gifts starting at $10,000, but with an emphasis on gifts exceeding $25,000.
  • Manages all prospect activities for his/her/their portfolio; expands the portfolio to approximately 125 active major gift supporters.
  • Plans, coordinates and executes all major gift related events including but not limited to major gift cultivation events.
  • Manage and coordinate donor groups to cultivate and request new gifts.
  • Execute major gifts materials including briefing memos, proposals and stewardship materials.
  • Monitor activity on a regular basis to achieve major gifts revenue goals and assist with review and verification of major gift donor recognition lists.
  • Lead the yearly annual giving campaign, including design, creation, and implementation of annual giving collateral.
  • Responsible for ensuring annual giving fundraising targets are met or exceeded.
  • Monitor and report on annual giving prospects, donors, and goals to achieve annual giving goals.
  • In partnership with the Events Coordinator, solicit event sponsorships for all major fundraising events.
  • Develops and implements a strategic fundraising plan for major gifts which complements the other fundraising programs of HCS.
  • Facilitates and organizes the efforts to introduce the President & CEO to all major gift prospects and current major gift donors. Supports President & CEO as forward-facing members of the leadership team in their fundraising efforts.
  • Once major gift is secured DEO is responsible for all follow up and relationship management of major gift donors.
  • Moves potential donors toward solicitation and closure.
  • Respond to donor inquiries, questions, and issues in a timely manner.
  • Prepare data and status reports and presentations on the Major gift program for the President & CEO – including annual and biennial revenue projections and major donor goals.
  • Manage correspondence, and database updates for donors in portfolio.
  • Prepare program performance reports and provide analysis.
  • Using Raisers Edge, maintains and tracks accurate and updated donor information.
  • Performs other duties related to the essential duties of the position and within the individual’s capabilities as assigned by one’s supervisor.
