About The Position

The Donor Engagement Guide plays a key role in creating meaningful, mission-driven experiences that connect donors to the impact of their support. As a part-time member of the Donor Engagement team, this individual serves as the primary point of contact for supporters seeking behind-the-scenes visits, special access opportunities, and other curated donor moments. Reporting to the Director of Donor Engagement, the Donor Experience Guide combines strong organizational abilities with a warm, engaging presence - ensuring each experience is thoughtfully planned, seamlessly executed, and emotionally resonant. This role contributes directly to deepening donor relationships, strengthening stewardship, and elevating the overall philanthropic experience.

Requirements

  • A passion for wildlife and the mission of Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium
  • A warm and energetic personality with exceptional interpersonal skills and a talent for building positive connections.
  • Working knowledge of Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium or ability to learn quickly
  • Comfort communicating with the public about conservation issues in a positive and rewarding way
  • Must have strong written and verbal communication skills, judgment and discretion with confidential information
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in customer service, event planning, donor relations, or related field.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be able to work evenings and weekends to support donor events and initiatives.
  • While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to sit, maneuver around buildings, stand, kneel, stoop, crouch, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear. Employee must be able to easily walk up and down stairs, bend down, reach, push and pull, lift up to 25 pounds and have a valid driver’s license
  • Must be able to work some evenings and weekends to support OZF special events
  • Professional demeanor with a passion for the mission of Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium.

Responsibilities

  • Represent Omaha Zoo Foundation (OZF) and Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium (OHDZA) with passion, positivity, and professionalism, reflecting both organizations’ mission, values, and culture in all donor and guest interactions.
  • Cultivate and maintain a mutually beneficial Donor Experience program with animal care departments and fulfill 150+ annual donor visits to behind-the-scenes areas at the Zoo.
  • Maintain ongoing communications with animal care to stay in the loop on animal procedures, breeding seasons, or other area-specific activity that could affect donor experiences on grounds.
  • Schedule all resources to facilitate on grounds experiences including OZF staff, transportation, animal areas, parking, security and proper communication channels.
  • Lead guided behind-the-scenes Zoo tours and provide donors with a wow experience.
  • Build relationships with animal care teams to enhance the donor’s experience during tours.
  • Provide feedback and insights to the OZF team to enhance donor experience programming and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Tell the story of the Zoo and the importance of donors during drive-time of tour.
  • Communicate current and upcoming projects on Zoo grounds.
  • Follow data guidelines to ensure activities are appropriately recorded in donor system
  • Assist OZF staff in the roll-out of private donor events as needed
  • Support OZF staff with logistical and administrative support to ensure staff remains donor centric
  • Follow all Zoo safety protocols and animal area guidelines to ensure a safe, respectful, and seamless donor experience.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
