About The Position

The Kohala Center (TKC)’s donor and volunteer engagement specialist is responsible for building and maintaining relationships with supporters who contribute financially and/or donate their time. The successful candidate is a people-person who enjoys connecting potential and existing donors and volunteers to the work of TKC. An ideal candidate will have demonstrated 3-5 years of experience in planning, executing, and reporting on volunteer and fund development engagement activities using Salesforce or other CRM platforms. This position is based in Waimea with occasional travel to TKC-stewarded ‘āina in North Kohala, Honoka‘a, and Kahalu‘u.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum three to five years of experience with fundraising, development, volunteer management, or a related nonprofit field.
  • Minimum two years of experience in an office setting providing administrative and data management support.
  • Positive attitude and a commitment to engage respectfully with ‘āina, co-workers, community members, donors, event participants, volunteers, partners, and vendors.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends to co-lead or support events. In such instances, sufficient advance notice is given and flex time is offered.
  • Experience using donor/constituent management software (CRM) and standard office suites (Google Workspace or Microsoft Office).
  • Exceptional written and interpersonal skills to build relationships and trust with diverse stakeholders.

  • Ability to execute multiple concurrent projects and tasks.

Nice To Haves

  • Two- or four-year college degree, preferably in communications, business, nonprofit management, or a human services field.
  • Familiarity with ‘ōlelo Hawai‘i, particularly spelling and pronunciation of frequently used words and names.
  • Experience working with Salesforce for Nonprofits.
  • Salesforce Certified Administrator (or able to obtain certification) a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Support president and CEO in the engagement of mid- to high-level and annual donors through personalized outreach, gratitude expressions, and impact updates.
  • Attend and co-facilitate TKC fund development team meetings to advance fundraising initiatives.
  • Collaborate in the development and execution of fundraising appeals, updates, and acknowledgement letters tailored to various donor segments.
  • Identify and research potential donors and major gift prospects to support long-term financial growth. Research and evaluate new means of generating donation income.
  • Assist director of community experience in identifying funding resources (e.g., grants, earned revenue, etc.) to support and evolve TKC’s volunteer and donor pathway programs including Hoa‘āina Stewardship Experiences and Hui Hoa‘āina.
  • Maintain Salesforce dashboards, reports, and charts for fund development statistics.
  • Update donor data when appropriate (e.g., change of address, communications opt-in/out).
  • Coordinate and participate in planning efforts and logistics for both TKC-hosted events and community events that TKC has accepted invitations to participate in.
  • Manage event records in Salesforce, working with appropriate staff to ensure event details are complete and accurate. Communicate with TKC staff and event registrants before and after events as appropriate.
  • Facilitate event registrations and participant communications
  • Extend invitations to Hoa‘āina Stewardship Day participants to apply to join Hui Hoa‘āina, our community of trained ‘āina volunteers.
  • Participate in planning of Lā Hana (workdays on ‘āina stewarded by TKC) and extending invitations to qualified members of Hui Hoa‘aina.
  • Assist staff in updating and maintaining volunteer data to track interests, service hours, services performed, knowledge and skills gained and shared, etc.
  • Participate in the development of retention strategies, including volunteer appreciation events and professional development opportunities.
  • Generate and analyze reports that measure organizational performance according to strategic initiatives.
  • Coordinate and/or participate in internal evaluations/assessments for learning to ensure adherence to TKC’s ‘āina accountability standards.
  • Identify datapoints relevant for funders and external communications. Enter AFL data into Salesforce; share relevant data with Kohala data science coordinator, grant managers, and TKC management team as appropriate.
  • Input or import donor data from donations received through channels that are not integrated with Salesforce (e.g., cash, checks, Venmo).
  • Support director of community experience in anticipating, researching, and developing approaches to enhance our communities’ experiences at multiple touchpoints throughout TKC.
  • Handle renewal of subscriptions for internal community experience online tools and applications.
  • Manage TKC’s general email account: Vet inquiries from community members and organizations seeking to connect with TKC, then respond or forward to appropriate staff person/team.
  • Screen and route voicemail messages to appropriate staff.
  • Check-out/check-in field iPads to/from event teams, ensuring devices are charged and apps are up to date.
