Position Description: This position is responsible for the facilitation of the tissue and eye donation process through interaction with hospital personnel, coroner personnel, communication with tissue processors and recovery staff as mandated by relevant federal, healthcare and donation industry standards.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma required.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years’ experience as support staff in the clinical health care field such as a Licensed Practical Nurse, EMT, Health Unit Coordinator, STNA, MA, Clinical Technician, or related experience in tissue banking.
  • Proficient use of computers, email and navigation of applications simultaneously.
  • Proficient in data entry accuracy and ability to read and interpret medical records.
  • Ability to assume responsibility without direct supervision, exercise initiative, and make responsible decisions under stressful conditions for a positive outcome.
  • Strong listening skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people, including medical staff, hospital personnel and donor families.
  • Ability to Understand progress notes, doctors’ orders, lab results, and medication lists.
  • Ability to access and navigate various hospital electronic medical record systems to obtain pertinent medical charting.
  • Ability to lift 25 pounds and sit or stand for extended periods of time.

Nice To Haves

  • An undergraduate degree, diploma, or certificate in the health field or related area preferred.
  • CTBS certification preferred

Responsibilities

  • Identifies and evaluates all referrals for potential organ, tissue and eye donation as mandated by relevant federal, healthcare and donation industry standards.
  • Collects and interprets patient medical and social history information provided by hospital/nursing home staff, coroners or investigators.
  • Obtains and enters accurate referral information into iTransplant.
  • Triages organ, tissue and eye donor referral calls, contacting the appropriate Lifebanc staff member when needed.
  • Requests and accurately reviews medical charts to determine suitability based on processor criteria.
  • Confidentially access and navigate various hospital electronic medical record systems to obtain pertinent medical charting.
  • Appropriately pre-screen cases with multiple processors when applicable.
  • Obtains releases from appropriate coroner/medical examiners and document specific samples and restrictions that they request.
  • Communicates case activity to the Administrator on Call.
  • Delivers a thorough and accurate report to DSC II and DSC III prior to family approach.
  • Serves as the point of contact for funeral homes and Coroner/Medical Examiner offices regarding the donation status.
  • Responds to audit findings and processor requests in a timely manner.
  • Accurate timely completion of charting error tasks assigned in iTransplant and responds to all other inquiries from the Quality Department required for donor chart clearance.
  • Performs all other job duties as assigned.
