About The Position

Under the supervision of the Donated Goods Manager, the Donated Goods Processor is responsible for the safe and efficient handling of all materials including sorting, cleaning, pricing, photographing, listing and stocking. Donated Goods Processors may also be assigned to cashier, merchandise and pull items utilizing electronic devices including a Point-of-Sale system, a handheld computer (PDA), a desktop computer, a camera or other electronic device depending upon assigned location. Essential duties include cleaning, sorting, tagging, hanging and/or staging saleable items in an efficient and timely manner, assessing each article as to quality, style, type and use, and tagging, hanging, staging or listing item(s) according to work instructions/training. The role also involves removing and depositing all unacceptable items into appropriate containers, operating cash register and/or computer with accuracy, following Agency cash handling policies, staging, merchandising, photographing and listing merchandise to enhance sales potential, demonstrating excellent customer service skills, and potentially assisting customers/donors. The processor supports Agency safety and security programs, maintains housekeeping chores for a safe and orderly working environment, and observes and supports all Agency policies. Regular attendance is required. Secondary duties may include acting as back up to donation attendant or janitor, keeping the Donated Goods Manager informed of merchandise/supply needs, and performing other related duties as assigned by Store Management staff.

Requirements

  • Some high school education.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Ability to be flexible in handling a variety of tasks.
  • Ability to communicate and interact courteously with the public and co-workers.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to ambulate, reach, and lift up to 35 lbs.
  • Ability to bend/lift from the waist.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Good hand/eye coordination.
  • Good dexterity in upper extremities and upper torso.

Nice To Haves

  • Six months experience in processing, warehousing or customer service work experience is highly desirable.
  • General retail store operations or warehousing knowledge.
  • Effective customer relations knowledge.
  • Knowledge of material handling.

Responsibilities

  • Assist customers/donors with purchases or donations.
  • Support Agency safety and security programs.
  • Maintain housekeeping chores to ensure a safe and orderly working environment.
  • Observe and support all Agency policies.
  • Regular attendance is required in order to perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Act as back up to donation attendant or janitor as assigned.
  • Keep Donated Goods Manager informed as to merchandise/supply needs, including any store maintenance and/or repairs required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Store Management staff.
