About The Position

YWCA GLA is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all. YWCA GLA provides direct services, empowerment programming, and advocacy to support marginalized individuals and families, especially women and girls of color, while working to challenge structural barriers to equity. Position Overview The DV Prevention and Community Educator designs and implements domestic violence prevention and community education activities aligned with the mission of YWCA Greater Los Angeles and the Survivor Empowerment Services department. Core responsibilities include developing awareness campaigns, curricula, trainings, community events, and coordinating support groups and healing-centered spaces that promote safety, empowerment, and healthy relationships. The position also participates in the 14-hour Sexual Assault Crisis Response Team on a rotating, on-call basis and delivers services using trauma-informed, culturally and linguistically responsive practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Public Relations, Marketing or related fields
  • 3 years experience working in community-based programs
  • Experience working with diverse cultures
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills
  • Expert in developing community initiatives
  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • Experienced in developing and implementing community outreach programs
  • Counseling, advocacy, and public speaking background required
  • Must have valid CA driver's license and required car insurance
  • 40 hour DV Certification and/or 66hr Sexual Assault Certification

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and coordinate domestic violence prevention and community education initiatives that promote healthy relationships, safety and empowerment
  • Develop and deliver awareness campaigns, workshops and presentations for community members
  • Plan and coordinate events to build relationships within our community service areas
  • Plan, coordinate and facilitate community education events and outreach activities to increase awareness of domestic violence prevention
  • Work closely with the program development department in creating cultural and language competent program brochures, flyers and other marketing materials
  • Participate in Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month
  • Facilitate self-defense classes as requested
