About The Position

We are engineering bacteria to convert industrial waste into critical chemicals used in advanced electronics. As part of this effort, we are seeking an intern to help investigate and improve molecular mechanisms of chemical tolerance in bacteria. The intern will use RNA and DNA sequencing to identify transcriptome and genome level responses to chemical stresses. The intern will knockout and reconstitute native genes, such as transporters and transcription factors, to understand mechanisms. Process engineering strategies will be also assessed in parallel to compare the effects of biological vs. chemical engineering strategies to improve chemical tolerance and bioproduction. The intern will gain valuable experience at the intersections of synthetic biology, microbiology, and chemical engineering.
