Modeling carrier selection is an inevitable step for a realistic representation of supply chains in a freight agent-based model. Carrier selection processes are fragmented between mid-to-large carriers competing for long-term lanes and independent operators navigating the spot market, resulting in decentralized decisions driven solely by individual profit maximization. Modeling this ecosystems inherently complex due to the interplay between strategic bidding models and tactical subcontracting, further complicated by significant data gaps regarding national fleet distributions and carrier home bases. Targeting the mid-to-large carriers market segment, this research focuses on establishing system-level optimization model designed to coordinate fleet allocation and maximize aggregate network profit.
