About The Position

ASTRO phase III is an extension of the developmental work that was completed in Summer 2025. The overall intent is to develop a CCD device positioning system that will properly “poise” the device towards a fix point (aka, the sample-under-test). The ASTRO-03-C phase proposal is to design, fabricate, install and test the mechanical attributes for an optical feedback positioning system to properly position the CCD device using the developed ASTRO-01 device. PTC Creo will be the CAD program used to design the components. The developed ASTRO-01 device will be integrated with a new x-y-z gantry, with the addition of both types of pitch and yaw (macro and micro) DOF motions. The over size is 48”(L) x 26”(H) x 22”(W). Individual deliverables will be identified over the course of the development of this project phase. Education and Experience Requirements The entirety of the appointment must be conducted within the United States. Applicants must be: Currently enrolled in undergraduate or graduate studies at an accredited institution. Graduated from an accredited institution within the past 3 months; or Actively enrolled in a graduate program at an accredited institution. Must be 18 years or older at the time the appointment begins. Must possess a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Must be a U.S. citizen or Legal Permanent Resident at the time of application. If accepting an offer, must pass a screening drug test.
