About The Position

Reporting to the DOE Alumni Network Executive Director, Jocelyn Brown-Saracino, the Community Lead will spearhead the Network’s efforts to build and foster a community of alumni volunteers engaged in the work of the Network and engaged in supporting one another. This is a position for a person with experience building strategic programming and leading effective teams, who is deeply motivated to build communities and support structures, and to connect and engage with people. The Community Lead will work closely with the Executive Director, other senior staff, working group leads, and Advisory Board to support the DOE Alumni Network’s Membership and Alumni Support efforts, as well as the broader work of the Network, and will serve as the lead liaison and partner to organizations providing support for the civil service community.

Requirements

Must have worked at the Department of Energy (either as a fellow, contractor, or federal employee) for at least two years, with additional experience preferred
Demonstrated experience developing professional growth and support programming and efforts
Preference for a candidate with 7 or more years of combined experience building and leading strategic programs and working within the Department of Energy
Preference for a candidate with at least 5 years of experience leading teams
Demonstrated experience with community-building efforts, with a preference for direct experience in building organizational membership bases
Ideal candidate will already be engaged with the DOE Alumni Network, demonstrating commitment to its efforts and familiarity with its work
Exceptional organizational and execution skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of engaging diverse audiences
Strategic thinking and the ability to articulate a clear vision
Proven ability to build and motivate volunteer teams
Demonstrated commitment to community and viewpoint inclusivity
Demonstrated commitment to the DOE community, with a broad network of DOE connections
Must be a network-builder and people-person who enjoys connecting people, forming new relationships, and partnerships

Responsibilities

Oversee the Alumni Membership work of the Network, in partnership with volunteer leads and working group members
Help ensure Network membership growth, active member engagement, and Network representativeness across the community of alumni.
Actively work to maintain an understanding of the interests of the alumni membership base, work with the organization to tailor its activities to those interests, and work to develop strategies to ensure active alumni engagement throughout the work of the Network
Understand where additional recruitment is needed to grow and bolster the work of the organization and lead efforts to fill those gaps
Lead the DOE Alumni Network’s Alumni Support efforts, in partnership with volunteer leads and working groups.
Lead efforts to build a connected and supportive community of alumni that continue to identify with the Department
Oversee the growth of in-person and virtual events that connect alumni
Oversee the growth of regional and/or affiliation subgroups
Lead Network’s Progressional and Job Support activities including leading efforts in partnership with alumni volunteers to:
Develop a suite of resources for job seekers as they seek to transition, including collaboration with EPN and other relevant organizations on these efforts
Execute and grow a mentorship program for job seekers
Ensure Alumni Support Working Group is meaningfully engaged with shaping and leading these efforts
Serve on DOE Alumni Network Leadership Team
Contribute to the formation, growth, and management of the Network
Engagement in Network leadership activities, including engagement with Advisory Board
Lead execution and evolution of Network strategies for Alumni Support and Alumni Membership, in partnership with working group leads.
Develop, track and maintain data and metrics on the impacts of program area.
Serve as primary liaison and partner to organizations seeking to support the civil service community and work within the Network on relevant cross-cutting efforts relevant to rebuilding the civil service
Build awareness of, partnerships with, and coordinate with relevant organizations to ensure DOE alumni access to and awareness of resources provided
Coordinate with and work closely with other parts of the organization, including efforts to:
Help rebuild the reputation of federal civil servants, including DOE staff
Participate in efforts to highlight and celebrate alumni
Engage in non-partisan policy efforts to help address vulnerabilities to the civil service
Other duties as assigned
