About The Position

Perform a variety of duties in the sorting and transporting of donated goods, which may include loading or off-loading items from trucks and trailers, performing initial sort of textiles and hard sort items, and transporting materials as required.

Requirements

• EDUCATION REQUIRED: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• LICENSE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED: None.
• EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: None. All aspects of the job may be learned on-the-job.
• KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED: Basic math abilities. Use of material handling equipment and use of material handling techniques preferred (this may be learned on-the-job). Familiarity with Goodwill Central Coast’s mission and general Company policies and procedures (this may be learned on-the-job).
• EQUIPMENT USED: Typical material handling equipment.
• SKILLS/APTITUDES/TEMPERAMENTS:
• Ability to communicate in basic oral and written English. Ability to communicate in basic Spanish may be acceptable, depending on location.
• Ability to perform routine work, adapting to change, as it relates to work flow without loss of efficiency.
• Ability to understand and accept directions and follow procedures.
• Ability to coordinate eye/hand/foot movement to safely maneuver in/out of trucks/trailers, walk up/down ramps and lift/stack donations.
• Ability to maintain self-control and work in cooperation with co - workers.
• Ability to meet and maintain established standards as communicated by supervisor.
• Ability to demonstrate satisfactory attendance as outlined in Company policy.
• Ability to adhere to safe work practices as documented in Company safety policies; ability to report safety hazards/accidents promptly to supervisor or safety committee member.

Responsibilities

• Load trucks and trailers by placing materials for delivery to stores.
• Off-load donations from trucks and trailers by removing materials and placing in designated areas.
• Perform initial donation processing prior to distribution to various processing departments
• Transport materials to appropriate departments and locations.
• Depending on position, use of baler and compactor, following defined procedures.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
