About The Position

Virginia’s Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is seeking a service-oriented professional for a Customer Service Technician position at the Charlottesville Customer Service Center. The ideal candidate will possess strong customer service and problem-solving skills, along with a willingness to learn, and is looking for a career with growth opportunities. The role involves handling various customer transactions, including communicating policies, procedures, and regulations; issuing IDs; processing applications; and administering vision, driver, and in-car road tests. Additionally, the technician will be responsible for processing vehicle registrations and titling, tax collection, and other DMV-related services. Training will be provided to ensure success. The Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles, headquartered in Richmond, Virginia, serves approximately 6.2 million licensed drivers and ID card holders with over 8.4 million registered vehicles, as well as a wide array of businesses. Requirements

  • Customer service experience
  • Experience with personal computers
  • Experience with computer information systems
  • Understanding of databases and how they support service operations
  • Knowledge of mathematics and basic accounting practices and principles such as reconciliations
  • Ability to interpret, explain and apply complex statutes such as the Motor Vehicle Code, and other laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures
  • Ability to adapt to frequent statute, policy and procedural changes
  • Ability to analyze records, files and other documents to reach logical and legal conclusions
  • Proven ability to work well under pressure during peak workload periods
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others in a team environment
  • Ability to communicate in a courteous, professional and tactful manner, both orally and in writing, with all levels of staff and a diverse customer population
  • Ability to complete required employee training
  • Ability to perform work tasks at different work stations within the CSC as assigned
  • Ability to operate all equipment necessary to perform the job
  • Must be able to work Monday – Saturday with varied hours
