About The Position

Alamo Group is seeking a Division Director of Operational Excellence to lead continuous improvement, drive Lean initiatives, and elevate performance across our manufacturing operations. Qualifications Reporting to the Executive Vice President of Alamo Group’s Vegetation Management Division, the Director of Operational Excellence will be responsible for driving continuous improvement, efficiency, and effectiveness across all operational functions. This individual will lead strategic initiatives across the division to optimize processes, improve efficiency, reduce costs, enhance quality, and maximize overall operational performance to achieve the company's objectives and goals. This role serves as the division’s authority on operational excellence standards, ensuring consistent application of best practices while respecting operating company autonomy.

  • Ability to lead people and to successfully implement required change through the support of proposed strategies and techniques.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills required to interface with a wide range of personnel from the shop floor to senior management.
  • Requires excellent and persistent project management follow-up skills. Must be an independent thinker with the ability to work effectively in a self-directed environment.
  • Ability to present ideas, plans, and progress reports individually or to a group in formal presentations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with experience interacting with and presenting to internal team members, and senior management.
  • Skilled and proficient with the use of personal computers, Microsoft Office, and mainstream office software.
  • Ability to proactively identify complex issues and review related information to develop, evaluate and recommend options and solutions successfully, and to communicate sound conclusions or approaches to a problem.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and influence sound conclusions or approaches and transfer knowledge to others.
  • Ability to make timely and effective decisions and produce results through effective management of individual and team priorities and goals.
  • Ability to work irregular and/or extended hours including weekends and holidays as needed to support the Company’s activities.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally by commercial air carrier and automobile, including overnight stays; travel approximately 50-70%.

  • Bachelor’s degree in industrial management or equivalent experience is required.
  • 15+ years of progressive experience in manufacturing operations with a proven track record of driving operational excellence and implementing continuous improvement initiatives.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • LEAN Six Sigma / Agile Project Management credential preferred.
  • Experience in Value Engineering, LEAN or Six Sigma preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and promote “Best Practices” for Alamo Group companies in operational excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership to develop and implement operational excellence strategies aligned with the organization's objectives and long-term vision.
  • Lead efforts to identify, analyze, and improve existing manufacturing processes and workflows across all departments and functions. Implement best practices, LEAN methodologies, and automation solutions to streamline operations and increase efficiency.
  • Partner with Finance to quantify the financial impact of operational excellence initiatives, including cost savings, productivity gains, and working capital improvements.
  • Define key performance indicators (KPIs) and establish performance metrics to measure operational effectiveness and drive accountability. Regularly monitor and analyze performance data to identify areas for improvement and track progress against targets.
  • Establish ROI expectations and post-implementation validation for major improvement initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce operational costs and optimize resource allocation without compromising quality or performance. Implement cost-saving initiatives and monitor expenses to achieve budgetary goals.
  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence throughout the organization. Provide leadership, guidance, and support to teams as they adopt new processes, tools, and methodologies. Provide training and guidance where required.
  • Lead large-scale, multi-site change initiatives, balancing standardization with local business needs, and addressing resistance through structured change management practices.
  • Evaluate and deploy digital manufacturing, automation, data analytics, and AI-enabled solutions to enhance operational visibility, decision-making, and execution.
  • Develop and implement quality assurance processes and standards to ensure products, services, and operations meet or exceed customer expectations and regulatory requirements.
  • Foster collaboration and alignment across departments and teams to facilitate the implementation of operational excellence initiatives. Work closely with stakeholders to understand their needs and priorities and drive consensus on solutions.
  • Build and develop a high-performing operational excellence team capable of driving change and delivering results. Provide coaching, mentorship, and professional development opportunities to team members to enhance their skills and capabilities.
  • Identify potential risks and vulnerabilities in operational processes and develop mitigation strategies to minimize disruption and ensure business continuity.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and digital solutions to improve operational efficiency, productivity, and agility. Partner with IT teams to implement innovative tools and systems that support operational excellence objectives.
