About The Position

The Diversion Specialist will provide oversight and direction for the medication diversion surveillance program. The Diversion Specialist will oversee the investigation process of suspected medication diversion incidents, provide support for the Drug Diversion Response team and the Medication Diversion Subcommittee, as well as participate in continuous improvement, education and planning activities.

Requirements

(BSN) Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (Required)
3+ years experience as Registered Nurse (Required)
Registered Nurse (RN), Ohio and/or Multi State Compact License (Required Upon Hire) and
Basic Life Support (BLS) (Required)
Thorough understanding of Medication management systems and technologies (e.g., automated dispensing devices, medication carts, repackaging systems) (Required proficiency)
Excellent analytical and communications/ interpersonal skills necessary. (Required proficiency)
Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational skills. (Required proficiency)
Must present in a professional, collected manner. (Required proficiency)
The ability to work independently. (Required proficiency)
Collaboratively work with Human Resources, Compliance and Leadership. (Required proficiency)
Must possess strong drive, exceptional motivation and follow through. (Required proficiency)
Committed to healthcare ethics and confidentiality. (Required proficiency)
Ability to work with local, state & federal law enforcement organizations during criminal investigations, as well as with state licensing agencies and national accrediting organizations. (Required proficiency)
Demonstrated skills in Microsoft Office Information technology skills. (Required proficiency)

Responsibilities

Providing oversight and direction for the medication diversion surveillance program.
Establishes and maintains a comprehensive surveillance program to detect potential medication diversion.
Optimizes the use of reports and functionality of available technology to prevent and identify medication diversion.
Develops audit processes and conducts regularly scheduled audits to identify medication diversion in the various medication use processes.
Overseeing the investigation process of suspected medication diversion incidents.
Oversees and performs a preliminary investigation of identified potential medication diversion (e.g. discrepancies, eyewitness reports, hot-line tips, etc.) in collaboration with the appropriate manager, within established timelines.
Oversees and completes the Drug Diversion Scorecard (DDS) as a component of the preliminary investigation, as appropriate.
Compiles and evaluates the findings from the preliminary investigation and DDS and determines if potential diversion exists.
Communicates with the Drug Diversion Response Team (DDiRT) if the preliminary investigation suggests potential medication diversion. Schedules a meeting of the DDiRT within established timeline.
Coordinates with the appropriate manager and Human Resources staff if immediate action must be taken (e.g. impaired employee)
Providing support for the Drug Diversion Response Team and the Medication Diversion Subcommittee.
Presents the results from preliminary medication diversion investigations to the DDiRT.
Works collaboratively with DDiRT members in determining next steps after a preliminary investigation and coordinates these activities
Completes and maintains documentations of all investigational activities and actions.
Serves as a permanent member of the Pharmacy & Therapeutics Medication Diversion Subcommittee and provides administrative support as assigned
Participating in continuous improvement, education and planning activities.
Identifies opportunities for continued improvement in detecting and preventing medication diversion and discusses these with applicable leaders.
Provides leadership and actively participates in multidisciplinary educational activities regarding medication diversion.
Assures the departmental and institutional policies related to medication diversion are accurate and current
Participates in departmental planning activities, as assigned.
Performs other duties as assigned.
