Under limited supervision, serves as a lead engineer performing engineering assignments. Provides engineering assistance developing project plans, designs, or traffic engineering studies and other related documents, field experience with traffic signals and ITS hardware, cost estimates and other engineering technical reports for transportation projects. Provides training, support and knowledge sharing to other engineers. JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES: Manages the Operations and/or Access Management Units of the District Traffic Section. These units are primarily responsible for conducting District-wide assignments that include but are not limited to traffic engineering studies, signal timing/phasing studies, computerized monitoring and control of signal operation and timing, safety enhancement reviews, citizen complaint investigations, GDOT construction plan review, and speed zone/radar ordinance coordination. Reviews, approves and issues driveway/special encroachment permits. Reviews and approves traffic control plans and advises District Construction, Maintenance, and other Traffic Operations personnel on proper technique and placement. Coordinates with local officials and law enforcement agencies on all safety and efficiency-related problems and complaints. Responds to and represents the Department in emergency situations. Provides expert-level guidance on traffic operations issues to internal and external customers. Represents Traffic Operations at public meetings, field plan reviews, and other milestone or key meetings. Please note, this position may be filled at the lower level = CE-4
