Supervises personnel engaged in transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, design, construction, transportation/traffic operations, maintenance and bridge inspection. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials, private entities and contractors. Employees at this level are virtually self-supervising and assume direct accountability for the work product. Essential Duties: Advises staff engineers. Designs, sketches and recommends bridge repair procedures. Develops and oversees laboratory and/or geotechnical consultant contracts. Drives/travels to project/work locations to make on-site engineering reviews, analyses, tests and to provide technical support. Makes presentations and represents TxDOT. Performs, reviews and monitors detailed investigations, data collection, analyses and coordination of bridge related research and recommends cost effective project level design for new, rehabilitated and reconstructed bridges. Prepares correspondence and reports. Recommends transportation engineering training needs. Represents the Department at meetings, conferences and related activities. Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
