Requirements

  • Knowledge of: court system and procedures; legal terminology; and community resources to refer victims and witnesses.
  • Skill in: Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint; accurately typing 35-40 wpm; and answering a multi-line telephone system.
  • Ability to: interview to elicit information from victims and witnesses to assure appropriate services; coordinate and schedule the daily operations of the victim and witness program; manage the court appearances of victims and witnesses to ensure their presence in the courtroom when needed; communicate orally and in writing with persons of diverse backgrounds; establish and maintain effective working relationships with law enforcement officers, officials of related agencies and the general public; and calmly handle stressful situations.
  • Graduation from high school or high school equivalency certificate and two (2) years of legal secretarial experience.

  • Familiarity with coordinating services across agencies to support victims and witnesses.

Responsibilities

  • Support and Advocacy for Victims and Witnesses Assist victims and witnesses in understanding and navigating the court process.
  • Provide emotional support and guidance to ensure victims feel empowered and prepared for court appearances.
  • Connect victims with resources such as counseling and other necessary services.
  • Serve as a point of contact for victims and witnesses, maintaining professionalism and empathy during emotionally charged situations.
  • Legal Support for Prosecution Draft and prepare correspondence, legal documents, and reports with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Organize and maintain case files, including gathering essential information and conducting legal research.
  • Schedule and coordinate court appearances, meetings, and victim services.
  • Assist prosecutors with administrative tasks and trial preparation as needed.
  • Collaboration and Communication Build and maintain strong working relationships with law enforcement, community organizations, and other agencies to ensure seamless support for victims and witnesses.
  • Handle inquiries from victims, witnesses, and the public with professionalism and tact.
  • Communicate effectively with prosecutors and other team members to facilitate case progress.
