About The Position

Assist leak, dump truck, field, valve and construction crews in installing, repairing and maintaining the underground water mains pipes in the distribution system. Responsible for the maintenance of rights-a-way, potable and raw water mains.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Valid Driver's License required
  • Valid commercial driver's license (CDL) class B required
  • Six (6) months of manual labor experience required.

Nice To Haves

  • Valid CDL class A preferred or ability to obtain within 18 months of employment
  • ADEM Grade 1 Certification preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assist leak crews in locating and repairing leaks within the distribution system, including digging, shoring, testing and handling pipe
  • Perform manual excavations of main or service pipe, trenches and ditches, including backfilling once work is completed
  • Operate air tools and light-duty mechanical construction equipment
  • Perform maintenance work involved in pipe corrosion protection operations such as applying green line, fiberglass mastic, etc
  • Prepare piping for repair and joining
  • Assist in maneuvering heavy objects such as pipe, fittings, and valves; assist in measuring and cutting pipe for leak repairs; apply coating materials to pipelines; pour and drive lead in pipe joints
  • Replace curb stops and copper installations, restore paving and concrete, repair sleeves and landscaping
  • Operate equipment related to appurtenances and construction for the repair of water mains and its appurtenances Operate mowing equipment such as riding mowers, string trimmers and push mowers to maintain transmission water mains and rights-of-way
  • Install clamps on breaks, replace service lines and shut off valves for repairs
  • Install service taps with tapping machines for fire hydrants, domestic and fire services
  • Maintain traffic control in the work area using flags to ensure a safe working environment
  • Replace and install meter boxes as needed
  • Work an on-call rotating schedule outside the regular schedule on a rotating basis
  • Operate the assigned vehicle, keep it clean and report all mechanical problems Maintain a valid driver's license
  • Adhere to all traffic laws and safety policies and procedures when driving company vehicles
  • Maintain the vehicle stocked with equipment, supplies, tools and other equipment
  • Perform all work safely in accordance with established safety policies and procedures Comply with all safety and health standards and guidelines issued by management
  • Perform other duties as assigned
