Summary The Distinguished, Technical Program Manager – Payroll Modernization leads complex, large-scale programs by defining goals, managing cross-functional dependencies, and driving end-to-end technology solutions. This role requires expertise in program planning, technical design, and stakeholder engagement to deliver scalable, high-quality outcomes. The manager proactively resolves ambiguities, mentors teams, and implements process improvements to accelerate delivery. By leveraging deep technical knowledge and strategic insight, this position ensures alignment across multiple initiatives, optimizes resources, and fosters effective communication to achieve business objectives and advance technology modernization efforts. About the Team The Payroll Modernization (PayMod) team leads the migration of the largest U.S. workforce to a new payroll system while enhancing system architecture for global scalability. This team manages complex, large-scale programs by applying advanced project management, stakeholder engagement, and technical design expertise. Collaborating cross-functionally, members deliver scalable, efficient solutions aligned with evolving business needs. The team emphasizes disciplined program execution, clarity, risk mitigation, and process optimization to ensure successful outcomes and sustained system reliability across multiple initiatives.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in program and project management, including planning, execution, and risk mitigation for large-scale, complex initiatives.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage stakeholder relationships to secure alignment and drive program success.
  • Strong technical expertise in system design, architecture, cloud infrastructure, and software lifecycle management.
  • Skilled in defining measurable goals, prioritizing deliverables, and optimizing workflows to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Proficiency in risk management, issue resolution, and driving continuous process improvements.
  • Demonstrated mentorship capabilities to develop team members and promote best practices.
  • Option 1: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, engineering, or related area and 7 years’ experience in engineering, engineering program management, technical program management, product management, or related area.
  • Option 2: 9 years’ experience in engineering, engineering program management, technical program management, product management, or related area.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification in Project Management.
  • Master’s degree in Business Administration, with specialization in strategy, supply chain, finance, information systems, or related area and 5 years’ experience in product design.

Responsibilities

  • Lead large-scale, complex technical programs by defining goals, critical paths, and key deliverables across multiple teams and dependencies.
  • Drive alignment and secure commitments for program scopes, delivery dates, and resources while managing cross-functional dependencies.
  • Oversee end-to-end system solution design, ensuring scalability, reliability, and adherence to architectural standards.
  • Identify and mitigate risks, resolve conflicts, and unblock teams to maintain program momentum and achieve business objectives.
  • Establish and improve scalable workflows, automate processes, and mentor team members on best practices and technical decisions.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders, presenting data-driven insights to influence alignment and decision-making.
