About The Position

We are seeking a highly accomplished and forward-thinking Distinguished Software Architect to join our dynamic team. As a Distinguished Software Architect , you will play a pivotal role in shaping the technical direction of our software engineering efforts, focusing on scalable distributed systems, data processing, machine learning, and generative AI. Your expertise will be critical in guiding our organization's technical strategy, ensuring the robustness, scalability, and innovation of our product. About the Team Walmart Data Ventures operates with the agility of a nimble startup, dedicated to creating the best-in-class suite of Data Products. Walmart Luminate is the first product, which has been created to deliver actionable, customer-centric insights, empowering CPGs and Walmart merchants make data-driven decisions in a smarter, faster, and collaborative manner. Immigration sponsorship support will not be available for this position What you'll do: As the Architect, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the technical direction of our products and systems. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, mentor and guide engineering professionals, and drive innovation to deliver high-quality, scalable, and robust software products.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of experience in software architecture and engineering leadership, with a focus on commerce, retail tech, or large-scale distributed systems
  • Hands on and architecture expertise across data engineering (e.g., ETL/ELT, data modeling), data governance (e.g., data modeling, data classification, data catalog and lineage), batch and real-time streaming data platforms (e.g., Spark, Hadoop, Hive, Kafka, dbt, Airflow), and cloud services (e.g., GCS, BigQuery, Vertex AI, Databricks) etc.
  • Thorough understanding of Domain-driven Design (DDD ) and extensive experience in applying the DDD patterns in Software Development.
  • Thorough understanding of Microservice, Data Mesh Architecture, and Cloud Native Architecture
  • Firm grasp of System Design and building Highly Reliable systems with string focus on Operational Excellence
  • Track record of building highly scalable Application and Data platforms with strong developer focus.
  • Extensive hands-on experience in Contract First/Design First Software Development for Microservices and Data Products, and CI/CD using the Service & Data Contracts
  • Extensive experience in the design, development, and delivery of software products with a large user base.
  • Strong track record in an architect role with large-scale software development data backed services and applications.
  • A clear vision for architecture design and great communication skills to articulate that to all levels of stakeholders.
  • Have strong business acumen to be able to bridge technical and business priorities.
  • Track record of collaboration and influence – recognized as a great partner for the business and technology teams.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and6 years’ experience in software engineering, architecture, or related area.
  • 8 years’ experience in software engineering, architecture, or related area.

  • Expertise in Web Services (REST), API Design, ORM, Spring MVC, Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), Cloud Computing Platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and Containerization Technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Understanding of AI/ML techniques and patterns
  • Master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 4 years' experience in software engineering, architecture or related area.

Responsibilities

  • Create and maintenance of the product technical architecture, aligning it with business goals and scalability requirements.
  • Design and oversee the development of scalable and fault-tolerant distributed systems that can handle high volumes of data and traffic with strong focus on Quality Attributes (e.g., performance, security, scalability, reliability etc.) and building sustainable products.
  • Design data processing pipelines and frameworks to efficiently ingest, transform, and analyze large datasets from diverse sources.
  • Optimize data storage and retrieval mechanisms, including databases, caching, and data warehousing solutions.
  • Work with teams to execute on a data mesh strategy, including the development and rollout of tooling and processes to support data contracts.
  • Establish and maintain the product architecture capability map.
  • Provide hands-on technical guidance and mentorship to software engineers, fostering a culture of learning and innovation.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including Product Management, Design, Various Data Provider teams, business stakeholders, and external stakeholders.
  • Do proof-of-concepts and provide strategic & technical recommendations in various products areas.
  • Stay at the forefront of technological advancements, conducting research to identify emerging tools and methodologies.
  • Communicate complex technical concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders on specific product areas.
  • Collaborate with product and business leaders throughout the company to ensure that technology initiatives align with business needs.
  • Document architectural decisions, design patterns, data engineering and service design standards, policies, and best practices to facilitate knowledge sharing across the broader organization.
