About The Position

Routes in Boulder, Clancy and Montana City. Summary: Utilize integrated routing software programs to establish and sustain routes to be as efficient as possible. Coordinates and completes tasks that promote safety and enhance operational efficiency through a continuous improvement mindset. Provides tools for staff to integrate and further improve judgment, knowledge, skills, and techniques. Drives school bus as needed to transport passengers safely over specified routes to local or distant points according to time schedules by performing the following duties. PLEASE NOTE: For candidates seeking full-time hours, you may supplement your time by driving a bus route. This is not a remote position

Requirements

  • High school diploma or General Education Development (GED) equivalent.
  • Valid and/or eligible to hold a CDL drivers license to operate a school bus as required by State Law with passenger “P”, school bus “S” endorsement with no airbrake restriction and a good driving record.
  • Drivers must comply with part 391 of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations and obtain/ sustain US DOT Medical Examiners Certificate.
  • Obtain/ sustain First Aid/CPR certification upon hire if required.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information one-on-one passengers, parents and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Must pass a drug/alcohol screen; and criminal background check.
  • Candidate must also be a minimum of 21 years old.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to work in a high traffic area for the environment is usually loud.

Responsibilities

  • Answers the phone for transportation, takes messages and serves as first line of contact for parents, general public, vendors and city/state/county officials and others.
  • Utilize integrated routing software programs to establish and sustain routes to be as efficient as possible.
  • Verifies accuracy of route times, stop times/ location are correct (route deviation).
  • Run various operation reports weekly or as needed.
  • Read maps, follow written and geographic directions according to route / trip logs.
  • Respond to radio and telephone calls. Return messages and be part of “call team” for mass phone calling needs.
  • Transport students in a timely manner to and from school and to and from school activities following Harlow’s safety procedures and applicable State Board of Education rules and regulations.
  • Provides administrative support for Transportation Manager by maintaining transportation records, various state/federal/district reports such as mileage and fuel report, invoicing, complete purchase orders, and payroll documentation. Complete Purchase orders (in absence of Manager) for vendors.
  • Coordinate Activities of School Bus Drivers and other duties as assigned by the Transportation Manager.
  • Coordinates with Transportation Manager to ensure driver files are current to include all regulatory items are maintained to include the random drug/alcohol program meets or exceeds Harlow’s requirements.
  • Will ensure that the following shift has all routes filled.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by leadership
