About The Position

As a Dispatcher you are essential to the operation of Zip Xpress. In this role you are responsible for overseeing the daily dispatch operations of the company, ensuring the efficient and safe handling of freight and cargo. This is an essential role and acts in a supportive manner for all day to day activities. Primary responsibilities will be related to dispatching CDL-A operators, answering incoming phone calls, developing, tracking, manifesting, dispatching, and ensuring adherence with Zip Xpress standard of excellence with regard to freight shipment. Other duties may include communicating with internal and external customers, maintaining, sorting, organizing, and completing paperwork related.

Requirements

  • Must be able to support the Zip Xpress culture with a focus on teamwork and a commitment to service
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve high performance goals and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • US Citizenship required
  • Thorough understanding of the LTL trucking industry and paperwork flow
  • At least 2 years of progressive experience in a Trucking Transportation role or a similar role.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office
  • Lift up to 50lbs occasionally
  • Stand/walk/sit for up to 12 hours per day
  • Bend and Twist occasionally
  • Reach/work above shoulders occasionally
  • Fine manipulations frequently
  • Gross manipulation infrequently
  • Push/pull occasionally

Nice To Haves

  • Experience utilizing a transportation management system/software
  • Experience following OSHA, DOT, FMCSA, and HR best practices

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a great example of the Zip Culture by understanding, and consistently following, and maintaining the policies and procedures of Zip Xpress.
  • Must demonstrate being discrete, prompt, and professional.
  • Follow instructions/guidance of upper management regardless of personal opinions or beliefs.
  • Collect timely status updates on all trucks transporting Zip shipments.
  • Ensure all active loads reflect accurate and up-to-date statuses in the system.
  • Collaborate with load planners and managers to identify, develop, and implement solutions for in-transit issues.
  • Initiate recovery of additional costs (e.g., detention, lumper fees, reconsignments) when chargeable to customers.
  • Notify receivers of any changes to scheduled delivery times caused by delays.
  • Document all issues impacting on-time or damage-free delivery in trip and bill records.
  • Communicate anticipated post-shift issues and proposed solutions to night operations.
  • Inform internal partners of any excessive delays or significant issues.
  • Provide support to Operations and Customer Service as needed.
  • Triage and respond to operational issues during after-hours and weekend coverage as needed.
  • Maintain consistent communication to provide updates on matters pertaining to driver progress and any unforeseen delays or events in real time.
  • Managing and directing drivers individually and as a team without bias, spite, or malice, showing no preferential treatment.
  • Actively maintain a fundamental role in decision making and problem solving regarding any conflicts or challenges that may occur.
  • Identify opportunities for improving company performance.

  • Effectively and regularly communicate with the Zip Xpress Leadership, Office Personnel, CDL Operators, and Warehouse Staff
